Jamison and Scotland in teh backs were reliable, Thornton was ok as was Laidler and but I used to cloese my eyes whenever Emu got the ball - disaster about to happen. Midfield was very well balanced and forwards were a scoring machine - we had genuen pace in Yarran/Betts/Garlett and Armfield and Simmo was great on the wing and Waite could do anythign when he was playing or not suspended. Hampson serviceable since Kreuze was mostly injured - very well balanced team and defense was always suspect with Judd / Murphy and Gibbs very one way - Carrots ran both ways and always kicked skywards - it was a good team to build on. We pizzed it up against the wall.
I still reckon that Armfield was quicker than Yarran and Garlett.

2009-2014, one player remains on the list and that's Patrick Cripps.

Guys drafted back then, should all be the experienced vets helping out the team now.

Still hurts us all these years later.

The 2014 500 IQ pick trade with GWS, ******* horrible trade. You don't trade out a top 10 pick unless you're getting a gun player in return.
FFS… Levi is 2m tall and 100 odd kegs. How the **** do you miss him?

Armfield had straight line burst and speed chased down Dangerfield after hgiving him 5-10 meter starts a few times , Garlett was faster and could weave around - but Yarran was slik players would be thrashing arms and legs trying to catch him as he weaved through anything in front of him - - and he looked like he was going slow motion - that is super speed- the only player I've seen that fast since, was Pickett. Walker was no slouch either...Loved that group of players just loved watching them all - watched Garlett execute a perfect hip and shoulder running full speed and touched him on an angle and sent him flying meters into the air executing a block on a bloke that was chasing Eddie - no team has anything like that running power assembled - I've seen since. Just 2-3 players short of pinching a flag.

Disagree with you on Malthouse being Sticks error. Mathieson had his agents on the board approaching Malthouse early in the year with the intention of sack Ratts regardless of the result and having the board install Malthouse to take us to a premiership. Malthouse thought his book tour was more important than getting into the club during the post season period and having a look at the players and working out who to ship off. And when he arrived, he found a few A grade players and a ton of overpaid B grade or lower players at the club.

Sticks, who was a Pratt faction guy, was livid that Mathieson had gone behind his back.
yes, the book tour!
I remember the sack ratts crowd were confused and silent how rolling up the sleeves came second - ironic he left the same way he came, all about him.
He even said and lobbied, he was the right man for the rebuild. Malthouse knew the club was run by rich idiots.

I remember also Kernahan stumped at an interview, when a female reporter asked, if malthouse wasn't available, would you still have sacked Ratts
He looked at her, paused, guilt-ridden face, and I said, "I don't know"
Sticks is a Carlton Man, a great guy, but not an administrator, his fault was , he cared too much and got sucked into it.
He was the one (with Elliot) that went to Pratts house, before handing in the keys - pratt said yes so easily, they asked why, pratt said, no one ever asked.
Sticks fell into the president's (meant to be temporary) role because of Pratts ACCC hearings and subsequent passing. Sad you don't see him around there much or at all.

Armfield was the fastest, Garlett second, but Yarran had better ball control at top speed.
sad how life takes its course, could have been a 3-time premiership player

I mention a while ago that I had a brief chat with the Demon coach about Demons vs Blues last game, he did mention that the "Blues spread very wide, making it easy to score against and also very taxing on players", he jokingly said "Just don't tell them!" but I am sure every opposition team knows this and I also believe its extremely hard to adjust during the season....
I do believe in Teague can coach but need better assistants and supports around him. Yes, I am very excited to see Power taking over the Stoppage/ Midfield coach...better setups and system will see us better defence and attacks, playing as a team instead of relying on individual brilliant...

Yes which is why when we turn the ball over it’s like we are rolling out the red carpet for the opposition.

We haven't been the same since the bone got pointed at us, in late 90's I believe. We need to do a cleansing ceremony at Princes park.
Leave no stone unturned, will need some powerful magic to undo our curse, will try anything at this point.
we've done a few

Totally agreed there. If Kreuzer hadn’t don’t his knee. A good solid defender instead of Thornton. If Bower had stuffed his knee or McInnes hadn’t done his ACL after 6 games. We picked up some good players, but all of them were stuffed by injuries. I hope some one shot our medical staff from back then!

If we had someone with Sticks passion with Fitzpatricks business acumen, we would have been back on the road to recovery a decade ago and would be competing for flags now.

Teams know we transition along the boundary, so they set up to squeeze us hard up against the boundary line and force a hurried kick to a 2-1 contest and then because of their squeeze setup, the corridor is wide open to them and they rebound through the middle. The transition along the boundary was a Ratts trait and seeing as there were two coaches who were there during the Ratten era, although one was the Bullants coach until he was grabbed by west coast, I wonder who was training the mids to always use the wings.

Fitzpatrick was on a ticket in 2019 , but pulled out

Would love him on the board

Finally some truth on this matter.

Mathieson has very dirty hands. He is the 1 bloke the club must distance themselves from.

Pulling strings from the Gold Coast, MLG / Judd complicit. Have we forgotten the farcical Shiel bid, where we flew him with Judd to GC, to meet with him.

Now we are self sustainable, so we hear, we should hand back those pokie machines he gave us, and cut him lose.

A coaches ability to fire up a team depends on 2 things. His motivational skills and the players mindset to respond.

According to Many of us Dawks list is inferior to ours. Swans embarrass us Swans top 8 team. Dawks were a disgrace last week, coach brutalises them and has them boxing all week. Dwaks come out and emphatically beat swans.

Simple question in the last 18 games has Teague had our team come out breathing fire and controlled aggression with a we won't take a loss attitude?

The stuff about Mathieson meddling with the club has been around for the better part of a decade. Also, the guy hasn’t met a reporter with a mic that he didn’t love. He isn’t called Rent a quote Mathieson for nothing. Back around when MLG was voted in as president, there was a battle between the Mathieson’s, the Pratt’s, and the Elliotts as to who would control the board with Tom threatening a spill of the board. That’s also the time when the board was revamped.

That’s why people say the board isn’t the issue, it’s the backroom manipulators who are the issue.

Do you know the details of his role? Do you know that he didn't midweek? Do you know if the club said they'd pay for flights and accommodation?

100% you know none of those things and so can't and shouldn't come up with conspiracy theories because he attended a game in his home state.

I'm going to the game on Monday in Sydney. Should I hand back my carlton membership? fu** me dead.

Don't expect that we'd have a representative there that you could hand it to, I'd suggest you put it back a week. :D

Rookie not normal? Point still stands, due that poor drafting severe lack of senior players. i.e. midfielders who could be helping Cripps.
Levi was promoted to the senior list in 2012.
2009… Let’s see, we traded away several picks for 206… who turned out to be less the next coming of Sandilands and more a 206cm witches hat.
2010, wasn’t that the year when we went for the 3 talls? Watson, McCarthy, and Mitchell. It was also the first year of the compromised drafts with GC17 taking the best mids in the competition.
2011… another year, another compromised draft. It was also the year of the boot. GWS took all the best mids and talls this year.
2012… guess what, another compromised draft. And we take Troy Menzel… a guy with a know knee issue, and we find out a couple of years later, a bit of a work ethics issue.
2013.. finally, we get a mid. Cripps slides to 13 and finally our recruiting department can’t **** this one up.
2014, trade pick 7 to GWS for Jaksch, Whiley, and pick 19. Then we took Boekhorst. While I know Blaine’s grandfather and father… he was never a first round pick.

so yeah, we really loaded up on players that could have helped Cripps. Defenders, forwards, and flankers.

No wonder SOS was put in charge following year.

Any Carlton supporter who thinks that David Teague and, for that matter, most of the current coaching panel are worth retaining has NO JUDGMENT. As Matt Rendell said, in effect, today the failure of the team is due to the coaches.
Everything in football, as in all areas of life, comes down to judgment. Irrespective of your intellect or your wealth or your sense of self, you either have good judgment or you don’t. FACT.
Mark LG strikes me as someone who lacks good judgment. Let’s hope that Sayers has it. Because we desperately need people of good judgment in the main decision making positions.

I consider myself to have good judgement, it's stood me in good stead for what I consider has been a life in which I've made few bad decisions and I consider your first sentence to be just plain rubbish.

How was our good judgement in the last 6 draft and trading periods in which we have drafted over 30 players who are no longer on our list and not ONE of them traded out?

Edit: Sorry we did trade Phillips out, my bad. Unfortunately he'd probably be a better player for us than the guy we replaced him with.
