One of the younger players.

A younger taller player might retire?

Geez, reckon you'd be talking about Marchbank here. He seems to be a social lad and sitting back doing rehab for a couple of years and breaking down every season wouldn't be good for his psyche.

Parko was a smart man, he knew it was over when he retired. He'd been ready since the mid 90s, never even expected to be there for 95.
i have a considerable amount of respect of any coach that endured Elliot
especially ones that call players at a new gig, mummys boys.

Imagine you're frustrated at your workplace, not getting reward for effort and consistently overlooked for members of an established in-group irrespective of performance.

Now imagine a number of your mates work for a competitor, where (as far as you know) someone in your position is made to feel included, is rewarded for effort and has better prospects for career progression.

That's what I'm saying.
Don't agree with that at all. You just work harder and opportunities will come. This time last year Stocker allegedly wasn't being given a fair go. At the start of the season it was owies. The nature of afl is that opportunies arise when you least expect them. You just have to put together a body of work to get the opportunity and take the chance when it comes.

your happy with Teague and that’s ok … there have been a lot of ordinary performances this year highlighted by the v Eagles that led to the review …. But one game does not lead to a review it is a collective …. Within this thread there is a list of run ons …. It is not pretty reading …

Am I? Where have I said that?

yes it has been better since the review announcement and by coincidence since Barker left and Docherty and Murphy have been not playing …. To give context those 2x players were highlighted most by commentators as not defending ….

Alas one of the three instances has been most recently, and definitely post-Barker's departure.

It was also better prior to the review announcement but I guess that doesn't suit the agenda you're trying to push.

My kingdom for some balance in your posting.

You also thought Bolton should have been retained … so in many ways your loyal person who follows without question… & probably also think Dan Andrews is doing a good job !!

I mean, there's an entire board on BigFooty where you can post your thoughts on Dan Andrews. Here is not the place.

Don't get personal because you've been called out. Provide the balance we seek.

Thought for the day -did we change what we were doing or just start doing more of what were are supposed to be doing all season?

Footy shows will analyse the games and say we have reduced the amount we are allowing teams to score over the last 4 weeks to around 60 points. This what we previously allowed teams to score when we won earlier in the season (aside for the * game which was a shoot out and we scored significantly more than we have all season)

It can be hard to see the structure on the TV, but at the ground at the Geelong game, it was clear that we'd changed how we were defending across the field.

Playing some of the weaker teams could well account for the 4 goal reduction in average score, but I don't think that's the sole reason.

I didn't think that David teague was on $500k per year. Probably fair enough that he's not on a million but somewhere in between.
Probably didn't phrase that too well. If we are operating near our soft cap, which was rumoured to be the reason we couldn't upgrade assistant coaches last year, and teague is on $600k per year we would have to pay him $300k under next years soft cap if we were to replace him.

If we then convinced clarko to come over (his salary is rumoured to be $1.2mill) then we have spent $900k (being $300k pay out and $600k difference in salaries) more than this year already before we talk about upgrading assistant coaches etc. So we either have to cut something somewhere by that amount or pay that much again to the afl under soft cap rules.

Even Lyon and Brad Scott would probably be looking for near on a million each.

Clearly that is not a reason by itself to make a decision either way but it is a contributing factor.

It's not just about players walking out, but about the harmony of the group.
There are some concerns there. They might all get resolved (hopefully).
That's why (at least one of the reasons) we're having an external review.

And yet another rumour is that our players are all very happy at the club and our dilemma is more than likely who we decide to trade or de-list in order to add another 8-10 players as some think we'll do this year.

I think a whole lot of people are guessing and jumping to conclusions that happen to suit their individual hopes. Many have allowed these guesses to manifest in their own minds as facts.

I choose to take it all with a grain of salt.

what are we, the french national soccer team?
next they'll be a rumour the parents fight in the stands over a missed set shot

My point was 5+ goal turnarounds… you stated there were only 3 this year … so ok … but there is a list in this thread of the last 2x seasons and it is not good … albeit the last month has been better … acknowledged

you highlighted Leppitsch but I also noted Voss & Power …

Greatest decision this club made post WWII … appointing Ron Barassi who played in premierships under Norm Smith …. Result 2x premierships plus 2x more premierships coached by players after he left …. You can add Robert Walls who left the club & came back and coached another

2nd greatest decision…. Appointing David Parkin who played in premierships under John Kennedy plus coached another with Kennedy as his assistant

Hopefully the club look at history and appoint a coach who played in a premiership under a great coach !!

You don't understand how it works I think. Not only would you have to pay him out for 2022 but you you would more than likely have to pay the afl the same amount for going over the soft cap. So it probably costs the club $1 mill all up.

We'll see how it plays out but there is one thing that I am very sure of - you are guessing and have as much as I do about what will actually happen (I.e. nothing)
I know how it works and I ain’t guessing , the end is near my friend and when he leaves he can take his bf Murphy with him , and immediately de activate their passes to the building
Like i said we will talk in 6 weeks ,,, enjoy the rest of season. And all the failed attempts this season to win games that would have cemented us in the 8

there is no difference between us and port , and we’re are port sitting on the ladder ??

If I had to guess I would say that you are about 13 years old.

I could probably use my time better by ignoring you so that is what I shall do from here on in.

By your criteria neither Clarkson or Beveridge should have ever have been appointed.

The modern example of Ron Barassi would be Michael Voss, played in numerous premierships under a legendary coach but that didn't work.

There are no hard and fast rules. We have to decide whether David Teague has the capacity to improve and move us forward. If the answer is no then it's back to the well.

There will be a lot more retirees this year than previously. Maybe one shocking one.

The three obvious ones - Murphy, Casboult, Eddie (more a maybe).

The shocking one is Marchy but I believe club will look to downgrade his status on the list and continue to support his rehab back to senior football instead.
