The top 4 of the 2017 and all haven't exactly set the world on fire. It's their 3rd year in the system and will any of them take the next step? It could be argued that Brayshaw has shown more at this stage but that whack from Gaff may have impacted on his second year so he needs to have a good third year.

Poll is up, who do you think will have the better year out of the 4?

Raynor has as much natural talent as the rest combined. No guarantee he'll have the work ethic to get the most out of it though.

Has come on a lot in that area. Working very hard and dropped 4 kilos of puppy fat over the off season. Cam is fit and highly motivated

Thankfully we drafted Cam and not Andrew who we were also considering at pick 1. Luke and Paddy may have also been considered but think there may have been a go home risk with one or both of them.

Brayshaw is the obvious choice to become the best of the 4, with his combination of smarts and endurance. Once he gets the ability to accumulate on a much higher level he'll break out ala Lachie Neale.

Of the others:

Raynor - still haven't seen anything to suggest he'll be the star he was projected to be, but plenty of time to prove himself.
Dow - really hard to predict his future. Was drafted an inside midfielder, where he dominated against smaller bodies but he's still thin and there are lingering concerns about his decision-making. Has surprising nous inside 50 and at worst he could be re-purposed as a mid-sized athletic forward ala Petracca, Dangerfield in his first few years.
LDU - haven't seen enough of him, but he's the sort of player who wont come good for a few more years anyway. Hasn't looked completely up to the pace.

At the time of the draft, I thought LDU would be the best of the lot long term (and Brayshaw the worst).

Based on how they've gone in their first couple of years, I'd now rank them the dead opposite.

Brayshaw
Dow
Raynor
LDU

LDU looks the best from what I’ve seen.

Brayshaw is gonna be good just a question of how good.

Raynor is clearly talented but unsure what the finished product will be.

Dow looks a bust to me but he has enough size and athleticism to turn it around.

LDU a classic of someone who came up from the juniours to the big league and found what worked against other 17 year olds doesn't work against 27 year olds.

He's now getting to the point where it does work.

Having his mate Bonar there helps too. Reckon he's set for a very big year. Brayshaw too.

Is the idea Rayner will run through the middle one day?

LDU for me, love the way he moves through traffic. Will still add a lot of size too.

Got a quick burst away and a lovely long kick. But yeah, he looks good in a crowd.

Yes think he will be a mid/forward like the player he is compared to, Martin. Just needs to get the fitness up and watch him explode out of the middle kicking goals on the run

Yeah I can see that. There was a game against us late in 2018, you should have rolled us and he missed a shot late on to win. But he also GOT the shot looking the absolute goods.

LDU is looking like a genuine bust at this stage.

bit too early for calls like yours. Especially as he played a lot of last year with a wrecked shoulder (which he has now been operated on) and contributed to his lack of physicality.
This year he is much fitter and injury free so we can start to judge him at the end of this season

interestng I'd now pick brayshaw over raynor the other two have not come on

Bradshaw always projected as a good solid mid with leadership, I think he's delivering on that. Rayner is starting to impact games more and more and is averaging 15 touches a game - by the end of the year I have a feeling your mind will change. :)

Don't think I will pure midfielders are more valuable than pinch hitters

19 coaches votes over the last two weeks. I’d say good solid mid is Brayshaw’s floor who knows what his ceiling is.
