John Davison is hitting New Zealand out of the World Cup... they must get him out soon otherwise their task of winning inside 20 overs will be almost impossible.

Davison is in the 70's.

Another century on the way for the worst first class cricketer in Australia.

Fair dinkum I cannot understand this at all. He is an absolutely shocking cricketer... can't bat, can't bowl... but in the World F*cking Cup he's taken wickets and made runs opening the friggen batting!!! For ****'s sake he's a number 9 in state cricket, and a very ordinary one at that!!!

Any chance his SA team-mates will call him "Fevola" when he gets back, just because four years later everyone will still be wondering how he pulled such an effort out of his arse?

NZ should have batted first. I know the pitch was a bit dodgy but their cumalative net run rate would have been improved more.

New Zealand's plan was to bowl Canada out for under 150 and knock off the runs inside 20 overs.... Davison and Patel at the end put an end to that plan, pushing Canada's score up around 200.

New Zealand will need a miracle to win this game inside 20 overs but with Chris Cairns in the side, you cannot rule it out completely.

If they had scored 325 off 50 and then bowled Canada out for under 200, that would have given them a better NRR.

i could do the maths myself but it's late and can't be bothered. seeing as ur pushing this 'barrow, give us some figures and show us what the case could have been.

NZ NRR is now +0.99, as opposed to SL +1.40. By my calculations with SL batting first, SAF will need to win in about 40-43 overs (depending on SL score). Given the fact that SAF want SL in the Super6 with them (they will carry an extra 4 pts) they will NOT try make this score in those amount of overs, so basically SL will go into the Super 6, NZ only hope is for SL to beat SAF. What a night this is going to be. Glad I am at work all night watching it !!!! :)

i agree. and who said the system couldn't be rigged?

i was thinking earlier that Australia's last Super Six game could be interesting. Would we dare lose to Kenya to ensure that they finish 4th in the Super Six, so that we play them again in the semi-final?

It would have to be tempting if the loss would ensure that scenario.

I was thinking that myself today (assuming of couse SL beat SAF tonight), especially if Aus win their first 2 super 6 matches they couldnt be displaced from top spot unless Kenya win their first 2, BUT that would be match-fixing wouldnt it !!!!:D

Not to mention it would probably make a farce of the world cup and insulting to Kenya

no different to South Africa ensuring that they win tonight, but not too well, so that Sri Lanka qualifies, rather than New Zealand.

Agree, but a bit different to throwing a match. That WILL be frowned upon. (Even if the ICC darlings Sri Lanka did it )
I will be very interested to see if SAF get the bagging that Aus copped when we did the same thing at the last World Cup. I would think not!!! Although it looks like the opportunity will not arise as SL at the moment look like getting at least 250. By my calculations SAF would have to get that in 39 overs, highly unlikely so there will be no need for a go-slow.

the way Sri Lanka are batting now, South Africa will be sweating a bit.

Sri Lanka look to be posting a higher score that i thought they would.

And a bit risky too. How stupid would Australia look if they tanked against Kenya just so they could play them again in the semi's, only to lose again?

I don't know how many of you guys have seen them in their last couple of games, but their fielding is world class, and they are OK with the bat and ball. With the entire crowd on their side, they are no easybeats, especially if they get a couple of early wickets with 220 on the board.

If they bat more overs, then it improves their cumalative average. If you only bat 10 overs at 10 runs an over, that's not likely to move your average up as batting 50 overs at 7 runs an over.

Example

NZ has 800 runs off 200 overs.

After chasing 100 in 10 overs.... they have 900 off 210.

NRR of 4.29.

After setting a target of 350 over 50 overs... they have 1150 off 250 overs.

NRR of 4.60.

I was using that principle.
