Make no mistake, If Anthony Rocca can return to the VFL and get through 2 games, he will play in September.

Our forward line lacks the one big tall to bring the ball to ground for our smaller, more talented players, and Rocca is the answer here.

Dawes is not quite there yet, but is showing encouraging signs.

I hope Dawes plays this week at least, can't see the need to drop him, plus he may drag a good defender out of play.

Short term; Anthony Rocca

Long term; Chris Dawes

we should play dawes till round 22 give him some games, then play him and reid in evey nab cup game next year with bucks at head coach.

Neither are in our best 22. I think we'd be too tall if we played all of Anthony, Cloke and Rocca. Rocca would only break into the team if he gets his body right and if Anthonys form stays poor. It won't happen.

Anthony has done a great job creating spillages in our forward line. He offers more in most areas of his game than Rocca now too. The only thing Rocca has on Anthony is his presence and contested marking ability. I think it would be a massive massive mistake to bring Rocca back into the team this late in the peice. He has no match fitness - nor likely will have by finals time - and his lack of mobility and defensive pressure means we are giving the opposition too much liberty to run the ball out of our defense. It's a shame because I love big Ant, but I just don't see him being in our 22 anymore.

Getting a bit ahead of yourself there aren't you?? The NAB cup is a long way off yet.

Also, i'm interesting in knowing why

1 - You think one of Dawes and Rocca are guaranteed/deserve a spot in the 22??

AND

2 - Why you think Dawes is a better option than Rocca??

in terms of Offence, Rocca definitely provides more....

the question is whether Rocca being a liability in terms of forward pressure would offset the benefits of having him in attack...

because rocca will be finshed at the end of the season? so why not play dawes he will be good just need to give him some games, and not drop him after 1.

I really doubt that Rocca can play 4 quarters of football these days.

He struggles to pull up for two games consecutively.

I'd lean in favour of neither.

Dawes imo. Give the kid some experience. He is going to be our future along with Reid. Sorry to say but big Ant is finished.

Giving him experience is not a good enough reason to get him to play finals this year. When it comes to finals (especially since we are genuine contenders) we must play the person who can best contribute to us winning. That will be Rocca if he is fit, rather than Dawes.

There is room for Rocca, Cloke, and Anthony in the one forward line, however I don't honestly think we will see it happen this year.

Best case scenario is simply neither. Dawes to make way when Fraser comes back in.

The best case scenario for our fowardline going into finals the way I see it is roughly

Medhurst Cloke Tarks
Dick Anthony (rotating mid)

If Anthony continues to really struggle (I think his been showing some better signs the last couple of weeks though) and Rocca can play 2 or 3 games of VFL in a row then it may open the door for him.

If Fraser (knock on wood please don't do this to me) can't get fit it opens the door for a Leigh Brown V Dawes show down.

Also second King Woodies notion of given we are coming to the pointy end of a season in which we are trying to secure a top 4 spot the absolute only thing on the mind for selectors should be getting the team right to hit the ground running in september.

As some have mentioned, this problem might not even arise.

When/If Fraser returns, we will at last have the luxury of playing a resting ruckman up forward for at least some part of the match.

We all know Josh can play forward, and have an impact on the game, and those that saw Wood tear a practice match apart pre season know he can play forward also.

Best case scenario, no Dawes, no Rocca, just Wood and Fraser.

Dawes, because he can actually get himself onto the park.

That being said a fit Rocca is a great asset and would love to see him out there, at least for a farewell game. The way it's going though it seems that every time he gets close to being right he breaks down again.

I'll chuck in two, I've got enough kids

Anthony Rocca would be a point of weakness in our AFL side that currently doesn't exist - A player who can't chase his opponent and therefore cannot contribute to the defensive pressure that we've been very good at applying for most of the last 9 rounds.

I couldn't bring him into the side in good conscience.

Ya just got to be a bit careful when the nurses checking the stiches, thatyou don't split them ;-}
