Can he take a over head mark? Seriously what a reality check that was watching him and the other spud forwards tonight. So shattered

Hm, my knee, it feels like it's moving, perhaps jerking uncontrollably.

I was more concerned with his decision making. He kicked to 3 on 1s a few times, and at one stage, handballed it directly to a collingwood player who had a geelong player behind him ready to tackle. Stupid decisions. Took some alright marks here and there, but yeah, not his best game.

We've always known that he doesn't have the strongest overhead, it's definitely something he can become alot better at, however he's young and he's played on one of the best backlines with very poor delivery.

I think he needs to play, just to be able to develop and become a real star in a few years. Of course he'd be lacking in certain aspects, and tonight showed it. However, he wasn't helped at all by the rest of the team.

Very harsh. Try playing on Matthew Scarlett and see how many overhead marks you can take. He was playing on quality and was far from our worst.

That's my point if he can't go head to head with the best in the league then how are we as a team going to succeed if we don't have a reliable players up forward?

Why do we always make excuses for players? Seriously every week it's Davis and now Dawes is on the " don't say anything bad about Dawes" harsh? no. Terrible? Yes. There's about 4 players tonight that really hurt the team and Dawes was one of them like it or not

Has Dawes even played 20 games yet and you expect him to beat the best fullback in the comp?

Very harsh. He won't improve unless you play him. PLaying on the better fullbacks', while beaten, will help him improve.

We got a very big game into alot of young players tonight. They'll be better for the run.

He got comprehensively beaten by Scarlett, Lonergan and Taylor when each of them played on him.

His terrible overhead marking is really exposed against better defenders, which is troubling going forward. Too often he doesn't bring the ball down in front of him, rather it goes over the back because he has hands are not strong, and gets swept up. Really needs to improve these areas of his game, but that is nothing new.

He is young, and he was poor, but realistically he should get beaten by these guys. Just like Anthony was beaten by Scarlett and Lake.

Anthony however was given 0 leniency by a lot of supporters and was forever condemned as being pigeon holed as nothing more than a 3rd tall. Ill see if the same supporters say the same about Dawes now that he got destroyed by some good defenders.

Just quietly more often than not, he was playing against at least two if not all three of the above.

The thing the Collingwood forwards need to learn is to leave a man deep in the forward line, so someone can actually lead at the ball once there is a mark 70 - 80 meters out. Secondly, and possibly even more importantly to stop leading into each others space...

That is the difference with Anthony. Last year there was no one else so he had space and kicked goals. This year we just clog up the space and land balls on players heads for the defence to spoil, whereas Geelong tonight hit their players on leads giving our defence virtually no chance.

Overall, plenty to take from tonight. We weren't good enough, but we didn't play great football.

Now the key is to get back to winning next week, finish top 4 and make the Prelim. Once there, anything can happen.

Go Pies 2010...

thank you well said I remember everyone flaming jack after comin off a 50 goal season and now Dawes got smashed by the same team it's ok?

I must say some people on here make excuses for some players and they flame others it's a joke

Just like you do? Ease up, there are plenty more targets if youre willing to look.

I'm not sure if Anthony has beaten Lake or Scarlett one-on-one yet but it provides experience. I've no doubt that Dawes will get better playing against the top defenders.

Harsh.

Delivery to him was on his head, not on the lead.

There were players much worse than him tonight. Don't pick on the new kid, thats uncool.

I wouldn't mind as long as he puts the arms out and attempted marking out in front or over his head. Seems to go for chest marks most of the time.

Perfect example high bomb came into the forward line and Dawes went up with 3 Geelong defenders. Didn't expect him to mark it, but he was the only one of the four who attempted a chest mark.

Jump of the Bandwaggon pretty quick didn't. We he was beaten by 1 of the best Ever FB's. He is still Develping and yes he struggles with his overhead marks and Can get Lost with Bombs in the Air. At the moment he is a Confidence Player and it was down tonight.

Very Good Lesson there for Dawsey and should play vs the Lions and should have a better game against Stacker?

That was not great and did looked he was very rushed a few times in the game

Don't care about the marking so much. That should improve with experience.

The handball to Wellingham on the wing on the southern stand was the worst football decision I have ever seen a player make. How a player can have that much time and space, and finally decide to handball to Wellingham, is beyond me. Does he not have a football brain or something?

How about the fact that DAWES has played just 10 games.
Hawkins has played poorly in a champion team for 3 years, and now is finally showing something.
Is chumps like you lacking perspective, that make BIGFOOTY trying at times.
Get a grip.

I agree with you, but I would love to see people treat players equally. honestly, if Anthony played like that tonight you and a host of others would be down his throat. One thing I noticed about Dawesy tonight at the game was that he tends to run under the ball a lot rather than keeping it infront and sticking his arse out to protect the flight of the ball. After listening to him on the Sunday FS last week I've got no doubt that he has his head well and truly screwed onto his shoulders and that the beating he copped tonight and any future beatings he receives will be put to effective use as learning tools.

One thing that has been overlooked a lot this week is that despite the addition of Ball and jolly in the offseason, the 22 we are going with is actually as inexperienced or even more inexperienced than what we went with last year in the finals. Guys like Reid, Nath Brown, Wood etc have all come in at the expense of very experienced players such as Lockyer, the Anvil, Josh and Presti. Tonight was not a massive disaster. For 2 and a half quarters we were right with them, the difference was a lack of polish and class from our boys going forward. A good lesson to learn at this stage in the season I'd say and above all else at least we are still tied at the top of the ladder making top 4 or 2 a real possibility!

Dawes was Ok tonight. Provided an option and often double teamed along with cloke. Delivery didn't help him. Brought the ball to ground often enough, we just didn't have enough crumbers at front and square. Leon tried to do the crumbing at the back. O'bree was our best forward crumber tonight
