YOU DO NOT BOO AT A DAWN SERVICE

EVER

MY great grandfather fought in WWI, his son signed up for WWII, so my great grandfather signed up and went again to make sure his kid didn't get killed. My grand father was in the Navy in WWII. My other grandfather was in the airforce and counts an Order of Australia in his ten medals. He refused to attend ANZAC Day services because they were so politicised and he hated the hypocrisy and now we have the actual crowd using a dawn service as a political stage.

This morning in Melbourne both the Welcome to Country and the Premier were booed loudly by the crowd.

If you do not like these things that is fine - but a Dawn Service IS NOT the correct stage for your protest. Have some respect.

If you want to kill ANZAC Day keep doing what you are doing.

Regardless of whether you think it is appropriate or not to have the welcome to country at ANZAC day services (or despise a corrupt incompetent poltiician giving a speech), it is completely inappropriate to boo at a memorial service.

God I hate the phrase celebrate ANZAC day, it is a memorial to the fallen

Was it well attended and how early did you get there?

I've done a driveway service ever since covid but thinking of going into the city for next year.
My son went so I don’t even know. He felt uncomfortable there though - threatened - which is plain wrong.

Whilst on one hand there is a diverse crowd of people attending the services form all backgrounds and opinions, it would also be true to say a majority of the crowd, being ex military, will tend conservative, and even far right.

There seems to be some co-ordination with the booing to those linked to the NSN and “March for Australia” groups, just like last year. It was being publicised on social media of those various groups.

I think we should charge people who boo w2c at Anzac or public events with disturbing the peace.
Enough is enough with these people - it can't be tolerated - and leads to violence

For those that boo Welcome to Australia, why not also boo the Lord’s Prayer? I mean Australia isn’t strictly a Catholic/Christian country. Since when is it a requirement either?

Still people honour and stand in silence that out of respect and solidarity. RESPECT.

Can’t believe in this day and age, values are out the window.

That's my issue with it - it's entirely unacceptable in what's supposed to be about first world, democratic, liberal society

It would definitely have been them again. They haven't really gone away - now they just joined PHON and created new social media pages like "Restore Australia". Slightly toned down in extreme rhetoric.. just enough to curtail trouble with the new hate laws

It's a right wing crowd on the whole rocking up to these things and sticking it to Indigenous peoples is part of how they see the world

The courage and bravery of the disrespectful mob to boo and jeer from the shadows at a proud Indigenous man standing alone to give the welcome to country at the Anzac Day Dawn Service.

No one is surprised that the racist Pauline Hanson One Nation online crowd are platforming it are they? They disgrace us all.

Could not agree more. It's not the place and it's just disgraceful behaviour.

This MAGA style politics is the worst thing to happen to the western world since the Nazis.
It's disgusting.
I'd add neoliberalism to that, but am in agreement with u on MAGA

That is orchestrated - disgusting behaviour

I wasn't surprised to see it tbh. As disgusting as it was. As someone who isn't the biggest fan of WTC, just be quiet at least at a dawn service ffs!

And credit to the guy next to him giving him a gobful immediately after he booed tho I must say.
