I was excited about this kid when we drafted him. After seeing him play i can't see him being anything short of a 10 year midfielder baring injury. Looked good tonight. Walls highlighted the clever knock on and while it was a very good display of his quick thinking and vision i thought it was his disposal that was the most exciting. There was a bit in the first quarter when he had one of his first touches and he kicked it inside 50 and kicked it with perfection. I really like this kid. Almost as much as pendles

Excellent first game for the Beamer. 17 touches, a nice goal a lovely tap on to swan. Hope we get to see alot more of the kid during the season proper!

Beams looks like he has poise similar to pendles. While it didnt look like he got a lot , what he did do was impressive.

Off topic , extremely impressed with toohvey tonight , backed himseld and looked more confident

You'd think he'd stand out more with the tatts, but I honestly don't think many of his touches attracted notice. There were a few there that were absolute class though, including the knock-on and the goal inside 50. Plenty there to work with in Beamer.

Agree most I thought where just Handballs and Short Kicks but did show some class and as you say TRS there is alot to work with.

I see what McCarthy said he will be a Solid AFL Player but does not have superstar written on him

Nah I agree.
Just pumped after watching my first game of footy in so many months (missed the first round).
I did like what I saw from Beams, but it's hard to read anything into it.
Didn't see much of his much talked about "elite" handballing skills.
Looked very poised, not rushed or lost.
Body looks great and ready to take on the men of the AFL.

I missed the first round too. Well, I went to the North Carlton game, and that was rubbish, so it was a great game to properly start the footy season off with. Lots of exciting things. Beams definitely one of them.

Hey all. Melb supporter here, but went to the game with some mates tonight because I'm just bloody happy to have footy back!

Beams was really good, one of the most promising debuts Ive seen. His disposal was first class, especially by foot which surprised me as he is known as a more inside handballer type. He did a few really good things like people have mentioned, the tap on, the goal, and a really good contested mark. Barring injury, I'd hope to see him playing a fair few games this year, as the sooner he comes on the better. He will help lead your midfield for many many years I think. If I was a pie supporter Id be very excited by him. You guys are onto a winner in Beams!

Very happy with Toohvey last night. Show a lot of run from the backline and his kicking wasn't too bad. Also thought Reid did well.

You can tell he can play and that's the thing I like. The kid seems to have "it". He has a lot to learn but he has me excited at the possibilities.

That 30 metre left handed handpass was something else!

I also liked that long precise kick (may have been his first) very early in the game that he kicked from outside 50 and he had to weight it perfectly over the heads of defenders to Maccaffer.

Exciting debut.

Looked to have great compsure, excellent kicking skills and even brought down Richo with a great tackle, but the main thing is he looks like he belongs out there. Should play many, many games for the Black & White.

Lots to like about this kid.

Off thread a tad, but kudos to Tooves - the best game I've seen him play, didn't make a mistake and even provided great run and finished with a nice goal.

Plus Swan, Didak, Davis.......

Throw in a couple of other players like McCarthy Dick Wellingham and Stanley and its potentially a pretty strong midfield for the next 7-8 years.

As kevind said in the after match thread, he's just a natural footballer and he has good instincts - the tap on was evidence of that.

Very promising debut. He and McCarthy showed enough for me that they need as much exposure at the top level as possible.
