Call it boredom or what you will, but if you could write a short letter to Knighter, what would you say?
Dear Knighter,
I hear you have shorten your list to three players for the No.5 draft pick. Assuming that Watts and NicNat are absolute certainties to be gone by then, I have my own thoughts on who we should be looking at. IMO, we have a bunch of very good midfielders, but not elite, with the possible exception of Myers. Since I believe that our forward line has some promise in it with Gumbleton and Neagle to spear head it in the future and the fact you can usually grab a decent KP defender later in the draft, I think we should grab the best available midfielder with our first draft pick. Here are my top 3:
1. Hamish Hartlett
A toss of the coin between Hartlett and Rich, but my gut feel is that Hartlett has more upside than Rich. The kid is all class who can importantly kick goals from the midfield, good in a clearance situation and has outstanding skills.
2. Daniel Rich
Probably win the NAB Rising Star next year as he is a ready made AFL footballer. Hard at it, classy and a raking left foot, you should snap him up if Port take Hartlett at 4.
3. Chris Yarran
He could slot into our forward line next year, but more importantly, if he has the potential to have greater endurance, he could be a midfield maestro. Skill and pace with a great nose for goal. He's a bit risker than Hartlett or Rich, as he is slightly unproven in the midfield.
Cheers,
