Unofficial Preview Death Ride ‘25! A Carltank campaign (pick 8) - traded to Carlton as part of a pick swap to give Hawthorn two first round draft picks

Massive blunders are fairly common across clubs.

Just look at Ned Long. Delisted by the Hawks and now killing it playing on ball at a premiership contender.

Playing the exact role the Hawks are desperate to fill.

Wonder if the Hawks will waste a top 10 pick looking for a quality inside mid they already had in Ned who they gave away for nothing.

Now that's a quality blunder if we have ever seen one.
;) :thumbsu:

They’re a special lot.
don't forget about lachie bramble who (is a solid player) but wouldn't get any time in our backline and would be stuck in the vfl.

Not to mention the likes of Doc Duyrea. I work with a Doggies supporter who was saying a few years ago that we had no idea letting him go. No offence to the Doctor, he wasn't going to change our fortunes much, especially during the latter years of Clarko's reign. Some people just have very little idea.

Players generally select the club they want to get to. Doesn’t matter what Carlton want.
Correct. Most players get to their destination club and the Cats paid very little relatively speaking for Bailey Smith. It's only when the club or coach are really not happy with a player that they don't get to where they want to e.g. Nick Stevens. The clubs have to deal with player managers and they don't want to upset their relationship with them so everyone plays the game. That's not to say that the originating club can't drive a hard bargain e.g. JOM to Hawks, TB to Hawks but most times the deals get done for especially for reasonably high profile players.

I can’t think of an example where it has.

Clayton Oliver. Geelong would have lowballed the hell out of them and Melbourne held their player. Joe Daniher and Josh Dunkley are other examples recently where they asked to be traded in contract and didn't get the deals done until the year after.

Tom Mitchell also didn’t really fit into the midfield Sam was building. He went to Collingwood and they had a role that suited him perfectly. Ned Long is playing that same role now that Mitchell is out.
Ahh but these Eagles nuffs tell me that Long is a better player than Nash has ever been and would walk into “a mediocre side like the hawks”.

So mediocre we have managed to win as many games this year that West Coast have won in the last 3.5 years.

I saw that. Apparently sitting 5th and 2 points behind 2nd place is "mediocre". You can't make this shit up.

That's the club refusing to trade (which they can do for a contracted player), not dictating which club the player goes to.

We didn't let him go, he was a free agent. But otherwise correct, has his limitations and Probably doesn't fit the need for us with Hardwick already there.

And then both Daniher and Dunkley ended up moving to different clubs than the initially nominated ones in the trade request, because those clubs were unable to provide enough trade currency.

Term remaining in a player's contract is leverage for the club with the player. That is a fact.

There was some word around this earlier in the season.I believe he is allegedly not happy with how his injuries have been handled. I’m sure he wouldn’t be alone on that front at the Blues.
So off to the cats then?

And I never said the club would direct him where to go. But with Geelong's present draft picks they'd never get a deal done for a contracted player like Curnow.

And I never said a club couldn’t refuse to trade a contracted player.
My point, maybe not clearly expressed, was that a club couldn’t control which club a player nominated.

I'm pretty sure we're making out like bandits there :)
