- MELBOURNE DEMONS! :)
This is a great article i got straight from www.mfc-demonology.com
Seeing as we are trying to boost our post count up i thought it would be nice to hear your thoughts on a very depressing yet refreshingly true piece of writting, writen from a supporter's point of view..... enjoy!
A game epitomised by turnovers and mistakes by both sides, the result was up for grabs for the team that wanted to win. But no-one from either side stood up to grasp the victory, and it was left up to the Demons to lose the game so that a result could be obtained.
The coaching staff ably assisted the final outcome by moving David Neitz to the forward line twice during the game, when he was probably playing his best football for the whole season at CHB. While he cooled his heels in the forward line, North kicked eight goals of their miserable total. The score for the MFC during the same passages of play…zero goals.
It was truly sad to see a former champion in Wayne Carey unable to run, jump or chase the ball, but he managed to kick his six goals during this period.
There was little good news for the team around the ground. Jeff Farmer and Peter Walsh (pictured, left) tried hard all day, but with their earlier injuries, are sorely lacking match fitness. Same for James McDonald, but sadly there are no excuses for the likes of Robertson, Anthony McDonald and Andrew Leoncelli who were all virtually unsighted for the whole day.
Jeff White battled strongly in the ruck but without any sort of toughness from others in the centre, his efforts were for nought. He is certainly carring some sort of injury or is seriously out of touch around the ground, as he can’t pick the ball up and is not going for the marks that we knew so well last year.
Simon Godfrey was like a breath of fresh air when he finally got a go in the second half. A bit of toughness at the ball and around the centre had been lacking completely in the first half, and he was able to provide it. He also (with the exception of Schwartz and Walsh ) will attack the opposition players and is prepared to lay the hard tackle and bump. Again sadly this characteristic is not seen among the rest of the team….It is certainly not lacking among players from Essendon or Footscray, and don’t the opposition know it.
Scott Thompson and Troy Broadbridge are learning their craft well, and isn’t it a pity that again the coaching staff were unable to see these capable and willing players as part of the team earlier in the season. The supporters in the Outer (who know nothing about football ), were calling for them weeks before they were given a go. And how many times do we have to ask for the same chance for Chris Lamb??? Ten minutes on the field today, and he performs credibly, bringing his total game time to nearly 15 minutes for the season. Excuse me but Steven Febey and Anthony Ingerson won’t be playing next year, so who is going to replace them???
On the matter of Febey (pictured, right), he must be applauded for 250 games, but his performance on the day was miserable. The stats sheets he will show multiple kicks, handballs etc, yet like his compatriot in clangers (Brent Grgic) most were useless or ineffective. Sadly he has lost the yard necessary to play at senior level, and should be told so. With 4 goals directly attributable to his turnovers, 250 games are enough.
The season is over for the Demons as this column suggested two weeks ago. We have no real prospect of beating another side this year, save for Fremantle and even that one would go down to the wire. It is now time to tell the players exactly that, there is no point being positive when defeat is imminent, it builds up false hopes and expectations.
This seasons performance has simply not been up to scratch. Without some fortunate results earlier in the season, we would be challenging the Dockers for the bottom. The players need to be told simple straight-forward truths, and get on getting on about next year.
I would like to hear someone on the field or in the coaching staff simply say "We played appallingly today, but we are going to do something about it…." The "forget about this week and concentrate on the next" line that we have heard week after week is shifting responsibility. And it is about time both the players and coaches were held accountable for that responsibility.
What do you think??
GO DEES!
