If that game against Richmond in 09 was the catalyst for a tanking investigation surely this one warrants another. Nobody loses that game.
We must really love Essendon!

I love that we had Spargo as the sub for his blistering pace and penetrating kicking. 👍
NBA stats: He might have the worst +/- relative to teammates of all time

I'm actually not upset at all

Winning that game by 6 point or drawing it would've done nothing for the club. Like that was diabolically so bad that Goody has to walk and or be sacked
I would have been infinitely more upset with 6 point win, this has to lead to changes... surely

This would be so Melbourne to tank now seeing we've given our 2025 first pick to the bombers.

100%.

Once they got within two goals we had to lose to expose Goodwin fully. He had no answers, none at all!

I'm still going to find a way to blame Jake Lever. When you have a player of his low footy iQ being in the leadership group, this is what happens. A bunch of clueless blokes that find a way to screw things up.

The funniest part of this whole thing is that I originally thought we drew this game because I turned the TV off with 8 seconds to go. I was seething but now that I've found out we actually lost I'm much happier.
Self schadenfreude can be so therapeutic at times like this.

Did anyone see what actually happened?

I must have missed it through my tears of laughter.
Seven people in the forward line. When we had the lead.

I'm going to be a hindsight hero and say that I could see that coming. Even when the saints got the final two goals of the second term I just thought 'here we go again.' Being 46 points up at the next break did nothing to change that.
No I don't think you are one. After the play restarted following the first goal in the 4th I said to my Mrs; 'I bet the Dees will lose this game'. I reckon a few on here would have had a similar thought.

I was only listening on the radio as I was walking the dog and the whole vibe changed in the intensity of the saints and the acceptance of the Dees players. They didn't know what to do and they didn't get any coaching support and it just became a self fulfilling prophesy.

Seriously though, I think any child with a Melbourne supporting parent or parents should be made to watch the final quarter of this game before having to choose a club. Some sort or governmental health and safety initiative.

Last thing we need is another generation of traumatised Dees supporters.

Oh making your child barrack for the Dees is a form of child abuse and you should get jail time. Horrendous.

I've calmed down a bit after digesting what just happened. At the end of the day none of it matters. Winning a meaningless game and getting to 7 wins and possibly 8 by seasons end I mean who cares really. Even though it doesn't matter it would have been fantastic if you were a saints supporter and were at the game. I remember being at the freo game in 08 and boy it was fun.

Anyway on to the proper stuff. Petty forward has to surely be done. He did nothing forward and would have been much more useful playing in the backline particularly when saints pretty much scored every entry. The fact that Lyon put a smaller defender on him shows that he had zero respect from Lyon.

Our mids went to sleep in the last quarter, they just needed to stop saints from clearing it and it felt as if everything was so lethargic. So many lazy tackle attempts. Saints got those first 3 goals quickly and you knew it was well and truly on. This has actually been a massive problem for years, so many times I've seen this team switch off in the last.

Chandler was the only player that looked like winning the game for us in the last.
