Tips my hat to this young midfield. LDU, Sheezel, FOS and Wardlaw ripped it up in the last quarter. We expect too high a level of consistency from this young group. It’s our strength but when they don’t fire we fall apart.

Also a special mention to Simpkin, one of his best games. When did he start kicking darts? He must have spent part of the off-season down at Collingwood.

We are doing stuff this year that we haven’t done for a while. We have improved, but that ugly old north keeps bobbing up way too often. We have talent in the midfield and up forward. We still need 2 or 3 gun defenders. I’m not sure if we have that on the list.

Just so happy to experience a special win.

Whoever no. 48 is for the Suns he’s an absolute flog

EAD plastic franchise

Well done Rooboys. Would pay for an Essendon membership to be a fly on the wall in the coaches box in the second half. Lots of changes…. Not used to it

We actually kicked 4.4.28 to 0.0.0 in the final 10 minutes, we could have buried them well before the final siren wth a little luck, but I don't think there is a more exhilarating way to win than to do it with a kick after the siren.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it, but I reckon the strategy might have been 'wear them out. we are fitter and younger. We win this in the fourth, when they are burnt from last week in Darwin'.
The commentators may have mentioned it about 47 times but your point is valid. So nice to have a win like that.

Replay on. Hardeman actually got us going in the 3rd quarter with his overlap run.

Brady needs to get to work and sign up these kids!
That link up from xerris handball to setup up Simpkin to PC is exactly what we’ve been missing for weeks.

He actively runs the right channels to get our ball movement pinging

Well that comeback was awesome. Who in their right mind saw that coming? It was pleasing seeing Wardlaw, FOS, Sheezel and LDU standing up in the last quarter when it mattered. Thought that Simpkin and Darling were very good in the first half when we were poor. Hopefully this win gives this playing group belief moving forward. That it teaches them to always give your all. Unlike that 2nd quarter against the Crows. :stern look

Now is this win against the GC claiming a scalp? No. GC don’t play well away from home plus they do struggle after playing in Darwin. But a win is a win. :stern look

Beat Freo. Now that would be taking a scalp. :stern look

Can anything, actually, and I’m serious here, be done about the umpiring at our games? Never have I consistently thought the match day officials are cheating, as I have done with the majority of our home games this year!

Semi-realistically, going back to 3 field umpires is the answer... But the AFL will never do it.

4 field umpires over 9 games means there are simply far too many of them not up to the level.

Reduce it to 3 per game and you will weed out those not up to the standard, while probably being able to pay the top 27 umpires better so that they could go full time & continue to improve.

Can only play the teams in front of us.

We don’t play well away from home either.

GC being top two before the game and still 5th after it indicates it is the best side relative to ourselves that we’ve beaten in a pretty long time.

I actually don’t care scalp or not, the heart and belief to come back from that far down I did not think we had in us. It is a superb sign.

What a tale of two halves. That first half was beyond terrible, didn’t think we had it in us to peg it back.

Three of our worst in the first half, Wardlaw, Zurhaar & Comben ended up being three of our best.

Unbelievable.

Funny what happens when we throw caution to the wind and play on a bit of instinct.
Comben was never worst, tried his guts out all game.

In the final term we also had two blatant non paid frees in our fwd 50 (high on Curtis and George getting Rowell HTB) that would’ve been goals as well

Umps taking the genuine piss today

My problem with Matt Rowell. Given he is an in and under player. But he reminds me of Tom Mitchell. Gets caught and drops/shovels out of the contest.
Umpires love them because they are their ball boys.

PS would have loved him at NM

Damian Barrett probably a bit peeved at the moment. But he will probably find a way to take a swipe on the first half and make excuses for the Suns
When it comes to Barrett I'm at the really don't give a shit stage. Not really relevant.
