Does the impasse with Ball affect this?
He has not been delisted I presume,
Will Ball have to finally make up his mind by the delisting date? I presume?

Yes, contracts inevitably run out on the same day as lists need to be turned in, so if Luke does not re-sign with the club he will basically automatically be delisted on the 30th - 31st of October.

Not sure why we drafted him. I guess we never expected we'd have such a good run with injuries and such. Was probably a good pick up.

Assuming he was contracted for 2 years (as all players picked up in the ND are). What happens to his money for next year? Does he get paid? And does it get taken out of our salary cap?
 
It will most likely count in the salary cap for 2010, but Begley's wages would pretty much be bugger all. How much could he have earned? minimum wage plus incentive for playing matches?
 
I think you'll find that players who have been with other clubs, who are drafted in the National Draft, aren't necessarily signed to two year deals.

There were quite a few players in this category who Malcolm Blight drafted in 2000, but were not there after 2001.

Now our senior list will be, assuming Miles and Dawson will be elevated:

Gram, King, McEvoy, L Fisher, Hayes (v), Lovett, Baker (v), Montagna, Riewoldt, Schneider, Gardiner, Clarke, Goddard, Gilbert, Armitage, Heyne, Ray, Koschitzke, Dempster, S Fisher, Dal Santo, Blake, Stanley, Lynch, Maguire, McQualter, Gwilt, Steven, Jones, Smith, Eddy, Cahill, Geary, Dawson, Milne, Miles, Peake.

37 when we are entitled 40.

The three spots will be filled with pick 32, pick 60, and pick 64 or Luke Ball.

I think now that Leigh Fisher is safe.

With the rookies we would be carrying over Gaertner, Simpkin and McGrath, adding Walsh and some NSW scholarship players (I'm not over that, would appreciate some advice), leaving us 2-4 picks in the rookie draft, which would seem about right as if the National Draft is weak, then so will the rookie draft.

I'd be taking Simpkin onto the main list rather than using pick 64 in a weak draft. He has the talent and deserves the spot. May as well put the guesswork into the rookies which doesn't require a 2 year commitment.

The AFL scrutinise the Total Player Payments of each club and usually ban some clubs (often St Kilda) from participating even if we have a spare spot on the list.
