I am shocked to see quite a few people willing to chop off 8+ players here, as someone said earlier in the thread, for a potential premiership winning team to be cutting over 8 players from it's list is very odd.

Depth is something great to have, not just from an actual depth perspective, but it creates an atmosphere that your spot in the 22 is not exactly water tight. I think this was true of us last year when we had a few players coasting and they weren't dropped.

So, my list is:

Retirements:
Rusling
O'Bree

Delist:
Cook
Corrie
Barham

Promote:
Blair
Young

Fraser and Anthony could possibly go via GC, otherwise I wouldn't be floating anyone else on the trade table. Recruit a few keen youngsters, and go into the 2011 season with a gelled unit with an aim to keep improving.

We are comitted to rookie listing McNamara next year (he is currently an international rookie outside the rookie list) and Cribbin. That means we would need to promote two rookies or promote one and delist another to make room for these two - thats as a minimum. Young is not on our rookie list, he was granted the right to play for our VFL affiliate as he is a NSW scholarship holder with us but is not yet officially on the list. We need to either pick him up in the rookie or national draft. That means another senior listed player is delisted and a rookie (likely Keeffe) is promoted or Francis (the most vulnerable rookie) is delisted.

It's not inconcievable that we might see a heap of spots open up just through a combo of retirements and trades:

Retirees: 2-4

OBree
Rusling

Trades: 0-2

Fraser
Anthony

Two have already been announced and I'd guess at least another two will go from the senior list, possibly 4. To be conservative though, I'll say 4 to go from the seniors.

The inclusion of McNamara and Cribbin to the rookie list would be accomodated, you'd think, by the elevation to the senior list of Blair and Young. They step right into Obree and Rusling's spots. That leave's 2 spots on the list.

The club might only need to offload Cook and Corrie to give themselves 4 spots (this is after the Blair and Young elevations).

Don't know the latest on Marty Clarke and if we want to have a go at someone through the rookie list. If marty's a chance then Barham might also walk the plank.

Nice summary, I wasnt aware we had two new rookies already signed up.

This will almost certainly mean the promotion of Blair (obviously) and Keefe. Cant see why we'd keep Keefe on the rookie list...there seems to be no room there - better to promote him now.

As to Francis, havent seen enough of him but if we keep him it seems we wont have a pick at all in the rookie draft, so maybe for flexibility we should drop him (as well aspromoting Keefe). We can always redraft him if there are no better options..

and of course it depends on Marty Clarke.

I'm not sure if this possibility has been discussed at all.

In the scenario that the club did choose to promote Keefe + Reed as well as Blair to the senior list (which will depend on the number of delistings + retirements. But then choose to delist Jaxson Barham. I would like the club to think about rookie listing Barham if there isn't the approrpiate rookie we are looking at. Barham for mine still has a fair bit of development left and even if delisted I would like to see him receive another opportunity.

I have a feeling St Kilda might bite if we don't. They love their role players and Barham would be a very nice pick for them. If delisted you can bet I will fit him into my phantom draft as a late St Kilda selection ;)

I dont know why people are talking about this when we might win a premiership and then Presti and Tarks will definitely retire. And then there's the decision about whether a player gets picked up by Goldcoasters and whether to use that compensation draft pick this year or in the future when its worth more.

Thanks, that actually clears quite a bit of the confusion I was having :thumbsu:

Young has not been drafted by us yet. He is still a NSW scholarship holder. We have the right - if Young agrees - to preselect (commit one of our a draft picks to him) in either the national or rookie draft.

Our rookie list of 6 is currently full plus we have McNamara outside the list. Thats Reed, Keeffe, Francis, Blair, Hunter, Carter (our six rookies because we have 2 veterans in Lockyer and Presti) + McNamara outside the list. We can only have 6 rookies assuming we have 2 veterans; or 8 rookies if we had no veterans which wont happen.

We have already preselected (signed) Cribbin, and McNamara is in his first of a two year rookie contract.

That means, assuming we promote Blair, to accomodate both McNamara and Cribbin these are the likely scenarios:

1 - We delist a senior listed player and promote a rookie.
2 - We delist a rookie listed player.
