My general manager has been battling depression for years and it has impacted all our staff including me not knowing how to talk to him finally I confronted him and said you need to get help you can’t just sweep it under the carpet “She’ll be right mate” as he always says I’ll battle through it but this turned out to be the best thing for all
Fortunately he started seeing someone his doctor recommended and all seemed really good for a couple of months whilst on the medication which seemed to mellow him out but the side affects of drowsiness and the psychologist didn’t work so he stopped and now we are back to square one he says he has no time to do anything he wants
so I cut him down to 3 days a week to help him
I am speaking to him today and want him to get professional help but don’t know how ti go about it

^ Bit above BF’s pay grade I think.

You probably need to talk to a specialist HR consultant to make sure you tick all the right boxes. Managing an employee with a mental illness can be legally fraught.

No I’m the director he has been with me fir 22 yrs great operator but puts himself last unfortunately to his detriment I’m trying to help him as a friend but I have the business in the back of my mind as well
Very difficult situation
The Big footy website knows more than most I’m just after some pointers if anyone can help

My staff members were pretty comfortable coming to discuss their mental health and well-being with me. I disclosed it with HR and was very well supported with managing them effectively (eg discretionary time off if needed, access to support channels etc) but as Caesar said, you need to be very very careful. First stop would be hr or workplace culture, whs etc.

As a friend all you can do is listen in a non judgemental way and provide what you can.
Work wise is a bit tougher. May need to get him to cash in sick leave. Not sure who is who's manager but if affecting his job he needs leave.

Met with him today and spoke about how important it is to get professional help
Hopefully he does and not really that worried about the business side of things he needs help and the situation Has surpassed the business side of things hoping he can get to a better place moving forwards I’ll deal with the rest
when someone’s well being is involved I’ll sleep better if I provide as much help as I can

Told my best mate who i see almost daily last night about my troubles this year and he had no idea. I must be a decent actor

I don’t think anyone other than my wife knows of my struggles especially over the last 18 months

One things that has helped with my depression is doing artworks, love creating as it takes my mind away from everything, I just finished this piece for my wife for Xmas

Wow, thats amazing!

I colour in. Poor mans art!
I still do colouring from time to time, I’ll try anything to stop my head from overthinking some days

Yep all the best for 2021 guys.

Just thought i'd share this- as I had a terrible year which led me to quitting my job... just about the only thing that made me smile back then was this gorgeous little Jack Russel (a neighbours dog- would be there most days to greet me, wagging his tail), so i decided to drop off a xmas card + a dog treat stuck to it, in the letterbox- explaining to them I was a local neighbor in the area, and basically what ive just said right there ^^^.

Anyway, so i put the thing in the letterbox, and of course Scratchy is there at the gate.

And he goes absolutely bananas, off his head almost, because obviously he can smell the treat in the letterbox. :tearsofjoy:
Absolutely PMSL.

Anyway merry xmas to everyone ITT.
