It looks to me like Goodes realised he was going to be about half a step from making the contest/body contact with Gibson. He stretched his last stride into a bit of a lunge in order to make contact, and it looks like the contact was more or less knee to knee, or at best lower thigh to lower thigh.

It was potentially a very dangerous act, but in this context not worth a free kick or a report.

Is not entirely the same thing, though. It could have been if the situation was slightly different, if Goodes had been an extra half a pace further away from the contest and so the timing was such that he basically took out Gibson with a soccer-style slide tackle around the ankles, for instance. I think Goodes is very lucky that is wasn't that bad, and so is Gibson. There is not much margin between the contact happening at knee or thigh height and the contact happening below the knee, but the difference is significant - one stays just within the bounds of legal play, the other is clearly not.

I think it is a little alarming that he has done this a few times - it's not something you want to see, it's something that can cause career ending injuries. I don't think that this has anything to do with Goodes' courage, though, nor any intention to cause an injury. It is an instinctual reaction to getting to a contest late, from the looks of it. Hopefully we never see him do it again.
 
Good to hear Horse today on the radio get stuck into Dermies comments, pretty much said that his comments weren't even worth discussing and Adam Goodes football speaks for itself also that the heat should be put back on Dermie for calling into question the MRP's integrity.
 
So when Dermie stood on Raydon Tallis' head that was courage?
I look forward to Dermutt having the courage to interview Goodes and call him soft, or doesn't he have the courage and will only hide behind a microphone without having to face off,

The worst type of cowardly slide was Lindsay Thomas last year - and it has cost Gary Rohan at least a year. No penalty whatsoever. Goodesy or Mummy would have got 8 weeks.

Once again the old Victorian boys rally around one another.

Last week buddies headlock barely rated a mention dispite the risks.

This week? Oh oh Adam Goodes sniper, and now dermie has the audacity to call him a coward? (And the flogs defend him for it)

Despite wether or not what Goodes did warrants a suspension, it's uncalled for to call Goodes a coward. Let alone the most despicably human being to ever play for the swans.

Dermie as a player was a bully, a thug and coward, he continued this in his infamous line in the sand crap.

He even admitted in an interview directing players to injure people "don't let him walk off that field" was one quote that has stuck with me.

Never forget the charging rule was brought in because of his doggy tactics. For dermie to attack any players character is more then hypocritical.

Now was Goodes luck to get off? In my mind yes. Based on past results you would think so, was it intentional? No.
Was it a dog act? No.
 
He's a fool. Why didn't he comment on the Buddy incident that almost resulted in a broken neck and was fully intentional that the MRP put aside?
 
Stand by what I said, first saw the footage of Yeates, laying out bereton in the 89 grand final in 97 brought a smile to my face then still does now.

Actually look how many times he aims to injure and hurt blokes. That's not hard footy that's underhanded footy.

On the contrary I did I believe the next time he got the ball he took a great mark and scored a goal.

But sucker punching someone or collecting a bloke off the ball when they don't see it coming is not on.

Just because he's a great of the game doesn't mean he wasn't also a despicable player.
 
A great player, but in the media he is a deadset flog. I have never known someone so desperate to sound intelligent as Dermie when he tries to explain the most simple concept.
 
i think goodes did something similar to rioli in the granny.. i dont like it when he does it. no need for dermie to question his courage though, thats way off. he doesnt have to prove his toughness by diving head first over the footy all the time.. as others have said, it looks like he using some soccer style move from his soccer background. hes very good at using his body to help get the ball to his teams advantage, even without taking possession of the ball.

So was Leigh Matthews but he was and still is a DOG. Their credibility as a Champion player goes out the ****ING door when they start media sniping Champion players of this generation from their media chairs. Ironically both have sniped Goodes through the media and were actually both cowards on the field regardless of their playing ability. Matthews is responsible for the most cowardly act on a football ground ever witnessed in modern times. Brereton was a bluff artist who handed out more cheap shots than a Mexican Bantamweight and in reality was not capable of knocking a sick Granny of a pisspot. So f*** him and his playing ability because as a player and a human being is not fit to carry Goodes bag.

I am Goodes hardest marker and you know that but do not defend that low mangey DOG when he questions the character of one the greatest icons in the clubs history.
