The Queensland Academy played the Victorian Academy in two matches over the weekend.

Both games contained different squads.

In game one on Friday night at Whitten Oval, the Vics won by 2 points.

In game two on Sunday afternoon at Punt Road, the Vics won by 65 points!
You dont have the names of the players for Queensland do you. Hard to tell what it signifies for the depth of footy in Qld without knowing who was in the team

No, couldn't find a list like the Victorians had for their Sunday team. I know that Zanchetta and Zielke played on Sunday and Harris was out of the country,

Getting back to the Release document --
They have indicated 25 players per team which equals if 16 a side plus 4 reserves =20 players on the ground.
If they have 18 a side plus 4 reserves = 22 players on the ground.
What about injuries in the squads -Or is the injury rate much lower in their game. Having a maximum of 5 surplus ?????
Good to see the AFLPA is getting involved with the Salary negotiations.

Not an issue if they are prepared to allow top ups. They must have considered the implications of a bad injury run with so few numbers. I can even imagine the squads consisting of 25 official squad players, but with another group of 'rookies' running around with them at training.

Added bonus of getting a look at a bunch of players for 2018 lists, as I suspect the turnover initially will be quite large

AFLQ have posted that the Sunday squad had 3 exhibition game players to the Vs 12. Zanchetta did play the first or second year, so if they are including her, Zanchetta, Bates, Zielke?

We thought this story would have been picked up by now -Anyhow it seems certain the Womens Jumpers for the new National comp will be very controversial with the usual combatinants = AFL versus the Clubs.
It is obvious the mens jumpers dont suit the Women with the AFL wanting to go US style apparel and the clubs resisting and wanting a modified mens jumper??? to fit in with their clubs outfits.

I think it is also the women wanting more traditional gear. Taken with other changes it might be a bit much. Potentially different sized ground, different number of players, different rules, different uniform. Given they are playing footy because they love it, cannot see them being impressed.

The jumpers are slightly different from the mens at yhe moment and completely suitable. The shorts are still cut the same as mens and could do with a tiny bit of adjustment. Currently the only difference in the womens and mens game is the slightly smaller ball. Most female players prefer it stays that way.

Caroline Wilson on 5aa was talking about a Womens Action Group ( why WAGs I don't know) and said Ports Board Member Holly Ransom and Jane Woodlands-Turner ( SA Focus show) were approached. The terms of reference will cover teams , jumpers and even the name of the competition. AWFL will NOT get a run and they will discuss the names of medals and awards etc.

No link yet , no podcast yet , unless someone has it

The bidding will be a lot of crap. The teams will be Dogs, Demons, Cats, Blues, Giants, Lions, Crows, and Eagles. Makes me sick that WA will have only one team but 30% of the players.
What makes you confident of the cats and blues? Hearing whispers Collingwood are likely to get a licence, we just built our new training facility to suit having a women's team, with female changerooms etc.

Edit, see bid here:

Cats are regional and Blues has a major sponsor for the girls team already that isn't a sponsor at the moment. Also, they have princess park as venue vs Victoria Park isn't in great shape.

There were rumours that there would be no Sydney team and two from WA.
Sydney said straight out no facilities or training ground suitable for the women and will not be for probably 10 years, because they are waiting for some redevelopment to get under way, well down the track. Perhaps they are dropping a fishing line at AFL House to assist.

Nah Giants are very in.

Right now it seems to be:

Melbourne and WB (already teams semi established, staff, scouting and support networks in place; pioneers)
Brisbane (QLD women's footy is huge; Suns have said no already)
Adelaide/NT (made a deal with NT footy; Port pulled out)
GWS (Sydney out; help to grow Giants support base)

Those are the seeming locks)

Then....

One of WC/Freo (can't get a read on this)
Collingwood (pouring in mega funding and poaching men's personnel for the women)
Carlton (sponsors secure and putting infra in place)
Richmond (structures and cultural base; Tiger Army helps too)
St Kilda (not much news here)
Geelong (not much news here)

Think it'll be 8 teams:
Dees
Dogs
Adelaide/NT
GWS
Brisbane
Collingwood
Carlton
One of WC/Freo

Richmond will be bloody stiff though

Theres no way the teams that play this year will be anything like the teams they have next year. See also staff and scouting.

Carlton (sponsors secure and putting infra in place)

Carltons womens side would simply move into the vacated Rebels hq and training facility at Princes Park.
