... that it was seriously poor form by Adelaide to run out through their banner and start their warm-up while the flame was still being carried across the ground this afternoon?

That really peed me right off. Really, really bad form IMO. :thumbsd:

Absolutley!! I was insensed at the time!

But like Lach said, I doubt that it was intentional.

yeah you're no doubt right, but at the time I thought "another bloody win at all costs corporation - they've probably timed their warm up down to the last second, and are thinking that no bloody war widow with her 6 year old alongside her as she walks across Subiaco with the flame in hand is going to stop us from doing it our way." :mad:

Maybe I was a tad judgemental... :o

IP, you forgot to change your user name to Toots Hibbert again...

I doubt they would have even known it was still on.

I'd blame the organisers - they could have started it 5 minutes earlier and there would have been no problem.

I'm glad I'm not the only who noticed this. It was pretty disrespectful. And there was an official that went over to let the banner crew not to put the banner up but they ignored it.

Why did they bother playing their song? If they can't get it right, why the hell should we listen to it?!

Not only that, they ran out while the AUSKICK kids were still on the ground. Normally they're supposed to wait while the kids line up and clap them out.

It was very poor form really, but I don't klnow if it's a ground official's fault of Adelaide's fault. Maybe they should go back to doing Freo first and the opponent's second when the teams run through the banner.

It wasnt so mcuh adelaide running through the banner it was the crowd booing them while they were. If it was on tv all the viewers would have seen was the torch being carried towards the cauldron and all us freo supporters booing.

But it was a pretty short-lived boo, once people realised. Normally there's a resounding razz for the visiting team when they run out - this was probably the least hostile reception ever...

My comment at the time to my husband was, "I hope we don't just beat them, I hope we smash them."

And if there was an official who told them to wait and they ignored it, then that is pretty average on their part. :thumbsd:

Yeah, coz as the first people with the torch came out, the banner crew for the Crows walked out and everyone was like "what the heck, they're not supposed to be out until after!" and they just kept walking out, paying no attention whatsoever to what was going on. Then an offical walked over and told em that they weren't supposed to be out yet, so they just stood there and waited.

Instead of waiting until after the cauldron was lit, they just put the banner up and the crows ran out. As far as I'm concerned, they were the ones to stuff up. They knew, from previous years that is, that we were going to light the cauldron etc. Why didn't they just wait until after that?

Their was a time schedule on the FFC website of the times everything was going to happen. Adelaide went thru the banner at the correct time.

Everything these days is TV timeslotted.

Bad timing - but not Crows fault

Was my thought...everything is timed to the minute these days for TV. Teams have a set time to run out, unfortunate if the other activity on the day suffered because of it.

My girlfriend and I were both shocked as well, At least the umpires held off on calling for the siren while the ceremony was still taking place.

In our section we noted it but it was acknowledged that the "Ceremonies" were running 5 minutes late and that Adelaide didn't have much choice.

And we don't know whether the production team told them they had to go now to meet the TV schedule.

And .. (there's more) is it any worse than us rolling the anchor though the Weagles warm up in Round 3. :D

If the ceremony was running late, why was there song played played AFTER they ran through? That's what I don't get :confused:

Actually, now I think about it...was there a song playing when the torch was being carried?

No, the person pressing "play" in the music section at least waited till the cauldron had been lit before letting their abominable (and friggin endless :rolleyes: ) song go.

Wasn't there a Len Hall game a few years ago where the umpires came out and started doing their silly little warm ups in the centre square while the ceremony was taking place? Pretty typical of the general lack of common sense among most AFL umpires.

This is the bit I found from FFC website re Len Hall game & times...allows 2 minutes for Adelaide to run onto ground after cadets marched.....

2.42pm National Anthem ‘Advance Australia Fair’ - performed by Brendon Hanson

‘Advance Australia Fair' is the national anthem of Australia. A revised version of a late nineteenth century patriotic song, it was officially declared the national anthem on 19 April 1984.

Australians all let us rejoice,

For we are young and free;

We've golden soil and wealth for toil;

Our home is girt by sea;

Our land abounds in nature's gifts

Of beauty rich and rare;

In history's page, let every stage

Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing,

Advance Australia Fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross

We'll toil with hearts and hands;

To make this Commonwealth of ours

Renowned of all the lands;

For those who've come across the seas

We've boundless plains to share;

With courage let us all combine

To Advance Australia Fair.

In joyful strains then let us sing,

Advance Australia Fair.

2.43pm Coin toss by Lt Colonel David Lewis

2.45pm Bouncedown

Can confirm that the programme was running late, and the Crows did run out at the original time, however, Freo ran out late and TV coverage still made it. What I was annoyed about was the Crows running right through the little kids Auskick game toward thew end of half-time. It reeked of arrogance, not to mention the fact that Subi officials can't have been pleased from an Occ. Health and Safety perspective...
