Digital Set Top Boxes

DONT have Foxtel.

Ok, now I just want to know a bit about it.. like with the footy, can I see different angles with channel 9 and channel 10 games?

What are some of the things that I should exspect to happen when I get one? (sides cut off.. what features etc.)

A good source of information is www.dba.org.au - it has a forum as will about digital broadcasting in Australia.

Digital TV is a bit deceiving, because choosing your own camera angles for certain shows was considered to be one of key features of digital TV, however, it is only available on one set top box - Teac ITV-D500 (IIRC)

As for what you can expect to change when watching digital TV, there is the main change, crystal clear picture. This is extremely good if your tv does not pick up analog reception very well.

You will be able to watch shows in widescreen format, so you see an extra 10cm (or thereabouts) either side, and it is really good when you watch footy or cricket, makes a nice difference.

Personally, I have the TEAC DVB300 which is a really good unit. It is really easy to use, is easy to change the aspect ratio, and scans channels well. I have had no problems with it yet, and Teac is a pretty reliable brand. Only set me back $279, but I think it has come down to $240 or so. Very good value. I use mine on a 68cm TV as well.

We got one of those DV3 peices of ****, it is absolutly ****. We have to reset it every 3 hours to stop it from freezing and us having to get it fixed. ****ING THING

Box Office and the real Sports Active only come with the foxtel digital package, if you just have the FTA digital you will get widescreen and the clear picture and sound and i think that channel 9 might do some kind of basic sports active for league/afl

If you want all the box office, sports active, news active stuff you gotta get foxtel digital

Yeh I knew u needed Foxtel Digital to watch the Box Office Channel, but I wanted to know if u could watch any of the movies featuring in the list at any random time.

I disagree with that. Teac USED to be a very average brand but have improved leaps and bounds on previous years in my opinion. I have a 66cm, flat, widescreen teac now and want to get digital on it but i was told i cant just get any set top box but i need an 'Interactive' set top box to view the digital footy stuff on channel 9.

They cost like $500 as well. Or is there cheaper ones or am i misinformed?

I m not trying to be nagative but i have had some bad luck with TEAC. I have bought TEAC TV, video and a stereo cd player. Not all at the same time. And i have had problems with all of them. All of them were under warranty i took them to get fix they were ok for a while but i'm still having problems with them. My friend has had problems with TEAC too and since then i promised to myself that iw will not buy anything that says TEAC on it.

We have a digital set top box, its got something to do with the signal the tv receives, and doesn't matter if you have a tv with a digital screen, its still better if you have it, i dont know why though.

we have the set top box with a 90cm HD wide screen digital tv, and we have foxtel with all the channels, if you have all the channels you get two free box office movies a month. theyre usually 5.95 or 6. 95 i cant remember which one.

In my experiece, I agree. However, I know longer buy TEAC, so I can't tell you how good they are these days. I stopped buying TEAC stuff about 3 years ago, because I had a TV that stopped working (blank screen, only sound), and we have had about 3 or 4 cassette players all stop working within months of buying them.

True, and not all games on Fox are Sports Active, which is VERY annoying.
