Don't like being cynical as I'm stealing Wally & Cogga's thunder, but........

Am I the only one who noticed Dimma's slip up today when referring to Cousin's form making the decision a tough one....err.... Ben's decision a difficult one....er... to hear.

I commend all parties for wanting it to be seen as a departure on Ben's part but can't help but feel Ben saw the writing on the wall. Good on him for having the humility to do so, and good on the tigers for going with the charade that he was going to be re-signed.

Everyone knows the decision was the correct one, I would bet my right nut though that there was not a chance in hell Cuz was going around again next year if he wanted to.

how does it feel to only have one nut?

It was his decision, and he will be a great loss.

Don't quite believe Dimma on this one. I think it was a club decision, but they wanted to give Cuz all due dignity.

Dimma categorically stated that Cuz was to be offered another year and that he wanted him to go round again next year. This was said in the presser.

Yeah I'm talking about the presser Tugga, have a listen and see where Dimma slips up and refers to it being such a tough decision given his form- then quickly corrects himself.

I'm no conspiracy theorist- Martin Bryant was one man, and man landed on the moon, but anyone who believes Cuz was ever going around again next year if he wanted to has just latched on to a succulent piece of WA pilchard.

not in quotation marks..did he even say that?

- His form makes it a tough decision, do we keep him because he's in top form or drop him because he's at risk of tearing his hammy? -

that's what I see it as

I think the club wanted Cousins to play on but were unsure whether his body would hold up for another season. Cousins probably realised it was best to go.

couldn't agree more Rooster . There was no way the club wanted him going around again. It was time to pull the plug on the media circus and very much a mutual decision. It is also time for new leaders to step up and make names for themselves. Hardwick was very aware of this

Good points, especially the media circus. We all know that once the documentary is aired the media circurs would just grow especially around Punt Rd. And, with all the young players on our list the last thing they need is the extra media attention and pressure.

Sorry toots, but l've said it once and l'll say it again, there was ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE of Cuz being resigned for next year.

The decision became concrete after the last visit to the hospital. If you dont believe me, then why have the RFC conveniently allowed Cuz to air the documentary now all of a sudden?

That doco was given the approval 2 weeks ago. Although the decision to go on or not was only made on Monday.

Cuz could have been a player next year, unfortunately... he blew it. ;)

Don't really know who to believe on this one but either way the club should be congratulated for it's handling of the whole shooting match.

We have come out of this media darlings and, if the conspiracy theorists are to be believed, without any of the old "leaks".

Maybe we are getting our act together, because we have ballsed these sorts of things up many times over the years.

In fact, looking back on the year, the administration and Dimma should hold their head high on how they dealt with most of the usual Richmond "hiccups".

Seems to me he was pushed, rumours around Hardwick wanted all the 30+ players gone last year and now he's achieved it.

I think he was cut but given the opportunity to retire given his standing in the game. He stated numerous times he wanted to play again and sounded adamant about it. Why the sudden turn around? A. There was no turn around.

In the end it doesn't really matter though. Correct decision was made for both parties. Cousins bows out with his doco, etc and playing decent footy not limping to the finish like Brad Johnson, we get on with the rebuild and youth.

London calling to the far away twat...like you'd ****ing know...:o

Gerald Healy said during 'On The Couch' that Cuz had started to turn in his desire to play next year roughly a month ago.

Prior to that he was very keen, but about a month ago started to waiver as I believe it was getting harder and harder each week.

I think the club were 50/50 on him playing, but I don't think he gave them a chance. No doubt he wanted to go round again, but I think he realised just how hard it would be, and how small the chances are that he would get to bow out on his own terms like he could this year.

yeah I heard it, could've been a slip up or just him wording it wrong, guess we'll never know

Rubbish....
Seems pretty simple to work this one out.

If Ben was 100% committed to play on, and could back his body & form in. RFC would have given their blessing.

If RFC had stuck their neck out & Begged Ben 100% to play on regardless of the consequences, he would have played on.

Both parties were not quite 100% certain
after weighing up all the possibilities, so common sense prevailed
and Ben said I'm hangin em up.
and Hardwick said your a champ, lets try and
find an off field role for you ASAP. The end.

It seems like his body is slowly down. You can tell after every match he looks exhausted compared to the other guys. In the end, both parties made the right decision as this time round Cousins leaves the game on a good note. Hopefully he will continue to stay off the drugs and live a good life.

I am glad that Richmond gave him a second chance and he will forever be grateful for that.
