Forget the scoreline, yet again on Friday night I watched a Hawthorn game and was left lamenting the poor discipline that has become something of a staple of our side in recent times.
Much has been made of our captain's dubious capacity to control himself and set an acceptable example for the team. Four weeks for that offence was over-the-top, but the fact remains that our captain shouldn't be allowing himself to get involved in such nowhere peripheral nonsense anyway.
Vandenberg's indiscretion has allowed Campbell Brown to escape deeper scrutiny, and that's more than he deserves, given his past record for allowing his hot head to overwhelm him. He can play well and has great courage, but for all that, I just wish he'd grow up and get some self control.
Chance Bateman got off with a reprimand, which is also more than he deserved, for what was a weak no-value nothing action on an opponent out of play and not in possession of the ball. Its high time the AFL cracked down on this sort of cheap shot nonsense.
No further discussion is required regarding Mr Everitt.
The old "leopard can't change its spots" maxim appears very apt when used in conjunction with a number of our players
