Worst display of umpiring I've ever seen, and this is coming from a former umpire. 24 free kicks to our 17 when we have more ball and more play. 3 goals from free kicks to our 0, plus a goal from a bullshit 50. If any of those umpires get a game next week then the umpiring panel is a bigger joke than the match review panel. Oh, and don't even get me started on the boundary umpires!

Once I saw that Steve McBurney was umpiring, I knew we would be in for a rough time and surprise, surprise, that's exactly what happened

Steve McBurney must be banned from umpiring all future Freo matches.

The umpiring was ****ing woeful on so many levels tonight.

Is it honestly hard to expect AFL standard umpiring at a Freo game? You think that would be a minimum expecation but even that's too hard to ask.

Apart from the out of bounds I didn't think it was too bad, nothing that was really game changing or enough to be labelled 'disgusting'. If we had have lost that game it would have been our own doing, not the umpires.

The umps tried their best but they couldn't deliver the game to their boys.

Commiserations umpires.

Thought they were worse last week but yeah terrible again tonight.

It was good to see that 2 of the 3 from last week were demoted for this week. Lets hope they do the same again and keep doing it until the maggotts get the message that they can't keep cheating!

I wouldn't say there were too many complete howlers, but we kept getting the 50/50 calls against us all night. Those little holds and pushes that umpires go either way on were not going our way. All night.

The Lake boundary non decision was unbelievable but the 50 to Sherman was correct and the Higgins goal in the last quarter was an obvious 'holding the man' free.

BTW thrilling game, congrats on the win, you guys will probably finish top 4 :thumbsu:

Yeah the Lake out of bounds was laughable. And the first deliberate call was 50-50. And the sherman one in the forward pocket, with the elbow to the head was touch and go, but technically may have been there. For mine these were the only glaring ones.

After that the umpires didn't pay deliberate either way all game, which I think mostly was the right call. And what's the rule for ruckmen smashing the ball back to the boundary line?

I think its fair to say though the two Grover holds were there, umpires got them right. And the sherman 50m penalty was there, what was pavlich thinking? Gutsy from the umps to call it though considering the crowd.

Disagree if you wish.

I was left dazed and confused. When Crowley got done for holding backwards??? it was the final straw for me. I decided the boys had to pull out something special to win this match.

A free kick can change momentum, especially a petty free kick when you are about to go forward. More importantly, when you are going to rebound from defence when you get a free kick against you for nothing and it results in a goal it hurts you.

The umpiring was shite tonight. Did you see one of the umps giv Balla a talking to, and then not reward the awesome tackle?

What about the 4th when we are 20 points up then 2 weak frees resulting in goals, then Pav going unrewarded for drawing contact high and in the back - about to watch this to review. Seemed critical in the context of the match at the time, especially when they usually try and balance the ledger a bit.

Final comment : we got a free kick for an out of bounds on the full near their point post. This is a stat that balances the ledger but was a late call by the ump and made no difference to the outcome. The kick came from the same place. Pathetic call.

The amount of times the Umps manages to get themselves into the wrong position was laughable. So many times they were on the wrong side of a contest and the other umpire would be too busy scratching his nuts.

So glad we managed to overcome their atrocity and win.

Sorry to disagree, but from where I was sitting, there was absolutely no evidence that the umpires had any of these things :D

i said it in the match day thread
they smacked us like a red headed stepson

As a red-headed stepson, I can faithfully say I have never received such a smackdown as the umpies dealt us tonight. Nor have any of my red headed step-child mates, male or female.

No, not so. Dogs got 5 goals directly from garbage decisions or non decisions, only one of ours could be said to have been from a bad call (throw that wasn't called). Makes the Dogs 4 goals better off, which all of the neutral observers at my local agreed with was about the level of umpiring error. Note - I'm not suggesting pre-meditated bias, just a poor performance on the day that consistently favoured one side.

If we had of lost i could see a few jumping the fence an whacking those umpires.
Its not that they missed many blatant free kicks its just the ones they paid to the bulldogs half of them were extremely soft an when it happened to us it would be play on.

They paid most that were there for us an the bulldogs all night.
Its just the bulldogs seemed to get all the soft not really there free kicks an we only got the ones that were blatant.

Get the feeling their told not to be influenced by crowd so they go out of their way to make us earn every kick an are abit softer when it comes to giving the opposition frees since theres no crowd to help draw attentiion to it.

Lol at whoever started the "Umpire's a w***er" chant. And no, it was not me...

So, that's what was being chanted.... couldn't hear it clearly from my seat.

I would also like to apologise to anyone around me who may have been upset or offended by my bursts of anger towards the umpires...:(

From a neutral stand point.

I have to say umpiring was shocking and compeltly one sided. The amount of bad calls were staggering.

I go to most dockers games and to be honest think generally you guys get a pretty decent go (being at home no surprise)
but yeah this game was absolutely shocking to watch from the umpires. Really need somethign to be done.

We had the two bald maggots again didn't we? McBurney and Nichols? By far the worst pair in the comp, we were desperately unlucky to get both in the one game.

Can't remember them ever officiating one of our games in even a semi-competent manner.

x2
I'm so glad I didn't bing my 5 month old son to this one. It's the first one hes missed.

Umpiring seems to be getting worse and worse. And I'm not even talk about favouring sides, it is just hopeless both ways, across the board in most games.

One which baffled me was when McPharlin got that free with the report, and the Bulldogs player kicked the ball away (pretty much an automatic 50m in that situation) ... I though I could hear on the mic the umpire(s) talking about blowing a 50m penalty which they then magically cancelled.
