Disposal Efficiency

After reading some of the stats in the AFL Prospectus, I was wondering who people would think would have the highest disposal efficiency for the Crows.

24 players on the playing list played 10 or more games last season.
Bassett, Biglands, Bode, Burton, Doughty, Edwards, Goodwin, Hart, Hentschel, Hudson, Johncock, Mattner, McGregor, McLeod, Perrie, Reilly, Ricciuto, Rutten, Shirley, Skipworth, Thompson, Torney, Van Berlo and Welsh.

Of these players who do you think would have the best (and worst) kicking efficiency, handball efficiency, and disposal efficiency.

It would be interesting to hear some opinions.

I'll post the best (and worst) in a couple of days.

As you are after some opinions I would hazard a guess and say in the best 4 are Edwards, Goodwin, Basset and Hart while the worst 4 I would think Skipworth, Reilly, Perrie and Thomson. Would be interesting to see the actual results based on actual stats.

For low I'll got with Burton, Shirley, Biglands, Doughty

IIRC correctly the same stat at this time last year showed Doughty had the teams most efficient disposal rate. Logic would also say the 'big 4' midfielders would also be high up the list. Skippy and Reilly are also neat disposers of the pill.

For worst Bock seems to miss targets alot with his kicks, Burton makes errors (perhaps more decision making than disposal?) and Bode also sprays it. I would have thought the ruckmen were rated pretty low also on this one

Rutten would have to have close to the best efficiency in the league in respect to his kicking.

On the low side most would put Burton but I would also include Goodwin and Riccuito in respect to kicking. Yes they get the ball alot but their disposal at times is I think we 'forgive' them more than others such as Doughty and Burton as they are 'champs'.

I remember reading a story in Rupert's Rag, calling Johncock "Mr 100%" - given that that was apparently his disposal efficiency to that point in time. It was fairly early in the season - probably around R5, but given how much of the season he missed I'd say he'd still be up there.

On the less efficient end, I think VB coughed it up a lot. To be fair, he was only a youngster trying to come to grips with the speed of the game, but I wouldn't expect his efficiency to be particularly high.

I'd say in disposal efficiency, Van Berlo, Perrie and McGregor would be our lowest, with Bock, Biglands, Burton, Thompson not far behind. Most efficient would be McLeod, Goodwin, Shirley.

Handball efficiency is the hardest to judge, because handball clangers aren't as obvious or as memorable as kicking ones as a general rule. The category would be led by Roo, McLeod and maybe Shirley, with perhaps Scotty Thompson or one of the forwards trailing the pack.

Kicking efficiency would be led by McLeod, Goodwin and Rutten, with Van Berlo, McGregor and Perrie towards the back of the scale.

Funny but i would have thought Perries disposal by foot has improved greatly over the years & i no longer close my eyes when he now has a set shot on goal.

My best for kicking efficiency would be McLeod, Rutten, Johncock & possibly Reilly.

The worst i would put as Biglands, Shirley & i even though i hate to say it Ricciuto

He sometimes sneaks under the radar, I'll admit, but he's damn good at hitting his target! I disupte that one...

He's improved - but he's still not exactly Fud.

With Perrie kicking 39.31 (compared to McGregor 31.18, Welsh 58.27, Hentschel 26.18) in 2005, he's still our least accurate key forward.

Then again, he probably had more long kicks than most other players on the team last year, and a long kick to a pack is judged effective, whereas a shortk kick has to hit a target, so maybe the stats will be kind to him.

You need to read the "Footy Stats and the Women Who Love Them" section on Why Context Matters in the Prospectus. It has Goodwin as the most effective kick in the entire AFL! McLeod is at #4, and Ricciuto, Rutten, and Hudson are in the top 50. Probably any perception of Goodwin as a poor kick is because he gets so many chances to make a visible mistake, but in the long run he makes fewer than you'd expect from the situations in which he gets the ball.

Van Berlo is the only Crow near the bottom.
