You've probably all heard about it by now, but in case you haven't... You'll probably want to register.

Unless you like Telemarketers calling at dinner time :p.

Churches, charities and political parties are still allowed to call you but the rest are not.

Biggest flog of all time.

The Government is just window dressing with these so-called changes to legislation regarding telemarketing and other direct marketing methods.

I've been on on the do not call register for 7 years yet we still get called at evenings due to business circumventing the guidelines due to a myriad of reasons. Remember, if you ever buy a raffle ticket that you put your details on, that companies buy the information from the raffles and that circumvents the 'do not call' register as you've registered seperately!

The Government is not going to kill a massive industry that employs jobs and generates taxes for them federally. You may as well believe they will kill off the tobacco, alcohol and gambling industries before you will see an abolishment for direct marketing in Oz.

We don't live in Kansas anymore Toto.

Having an unlisted phone number helps!
Our phone is still in my wife's maiden name. When I answer, they ask me if Mr or Mrs [insert maiden name] is available. I can truthfully state that they must have the wrong number as there is no Mr or Mrs [maiden name] at this address. Over time, we have received less and less calls.

They sometimes ask for me by my wife's first marriage's surname - I'm her second husband (if that makes sense). An easy 'nobody by that name lives here' suffices.

Not always.

I have a silent number and also do not enter competitions or anything that would give my number to anyone.

I recently got a call and asked for the 'primary householder'. So they dod not have my name at all. They went on about something and I asked how they got my number to which the reply was 'what would you say if I told you your neighbour gave it to me'. I replied that I would say that was not true as I did not know who my neighbour was (I had just moved in!!).

The girl then told me that I should stop giving her a hard time as how could she make sales if she was talking $hit with me.

I rang the company she said she was representing who were horrified,.

The key is that many of these companies act like lone rangers, doing whatever it takes. The companies they represent have no idea what they are doing.

I have registered. Will be intresting to see what difference it will make.
