Wasn't that horrific, just as well it looked worse than it really was. Pity too, Jeff was gonna fire up and repay us with some vintage Wiz!

Great Game! never in doubt though.

For once the umpiring was actually worse the second time. Usually when I watch a replay I apoligise silently in my head to the umpires for doubting them. But this time the E-girls got 4 of their first 6 goals from 40-60 free kicks. That Vozzo must be a closet E-girls fan. I'll be keeping an eye on him this season.

It's interesting watching this game, many months after the event in a more relaxed attitude.

The umpiring was interesting, in that they allowed players to hold on alot in man on man contests, but rarely rewarded players putting on a good tackle even though it look like the player could have disposed of the ball. One umpiring decision (or non decision) that I will be happy to see regularly paid is the one where Pav runs away from the middle, is tackled, does an "airy", re takes the ball and ends up kicking a goal. I am not a fan of pinging a player who is making an honest attemt to kick the ball, if they throw or just drop the ball, ping them.

The E girls kicked themselves out of the game, by doing what was formerly known as a Dockerism, inaccuracy.

How was Freo's tackling that night? Superb is how it was. Young Webster hits 'em hard and Cookie was like Steve Irwin's croc once it realised the baby wasn't on the menu.

Dion was suberbly cool under pressure in the last quarter.

He was under a fair bit of pressure - at one point he almost looked like he was going to wake up.

One of my favourite parts is the absolute spazz attack that roid-raging pimple parlour, Charlie Gardiner, throws when something doesn't go his way. A dangerous fellow I would suggest. Unstable. A few kangas in the top paddock.

I was originally gobsmacked that Woodsy received 1 Brownlow vote for that game, but having re-watched it his last quarter pretty much saved our buns. He deflected several charges that had to have resulted in goals and pushed forward at all costs when others looked spent. Expect a big 2004 from The Clontarf Kid.

my favourite part from that derby was probably the hype surrounding the bell/cousins match up...watchin benny make vain attempts to get his hands on the ball up forward while belly runs (unopposed) rampant in the middle of the park.

and wiz's injury was tragic.....i reckon he would have done the clive to em and made it a second demolition derby. that first goal of his was supoerb...but i really wanna see a goal that could rival modra's running goal with smackintosh breathing down/on his neck

I watched the replay of it as well. The umpiring was pathetic. Vozzo kept the Eagles close. As Ripper said, Eagles got 4 of their first 6 goals from free kicks and another one was a mark by Sampi from a free kick against Thornton.

Loved Medhurst, Pav and Hase's goals.

That Slinter got first hands on. I had to smile when Wallie was syaying how Cookie had to lift his game as he had only 3 possessions till just before 1/2 time. He hadn't had time to get a kick as he was tackling everything that moved (and if it didn't move he would give it a push). He (cookie) really set the tone with some bone crunching tackles right from the first bounce.
