I really think that we're lacking one, someone who requires the best defender and isn't just a lead up player like most of our forwards seem to be. Now obviously Boyd from this draft is the closest to that, and even if he slides to pick 3 it'd cost a crap load to get a pick like that. Any ideas?

when i saw the title of this thread i thought i was gonna read a push to get schultz back at the club

All of our tall forwards are athletic or smart positioning types rather than contested pack beasts.

We could do with a Richo or a Cloke, but to be honest, I don't think I want our resources pooled into that area - it provides too much incentive to bomb it long without looking because it's more likely to pay off.

I'd rather invest in midfielders who can kick a few goals up forward and use their vision to spot a lead.

We'll be a far better team this way.

Jack is a power forward.

Not in the sense the OP is getting at. He's not that real monster type. He's a gun but relies more on smarts and positioning rather than strength.

Does Jack Riewoldt not require the opposition's best defender?
Of course he does, but if you notice the best defenders are often too good for him in wrestling contests, and then if you shut him off on the lead he often gets shut out of games.

yes we need one top four teams have one Hawthorn Roughhead, Cats Hawkins, Freo pavlich, Swans Tippet, Collingwood Cloke

really need to look into this boyd deal even if that means giving up a conca and second rounder

St.Kilda (who I think Boyd will slide to) would not want Conca and a second rounder for pick 3.

Looks more an athletic tall forward rather than a pack crashing power forward. .

How many true pack crashing power forwards are in the game? Even Cloke is more of a lead up forward than a pack crashing one. Sure he takes a pack mark now and then but so does Jack

Has ever had a fair go at developing as a forward? We are to busy trying to make him a backman.
It's got nothing to do with where we play him, the kid gets injured everywhere, at Coburg or AFL. When he shows his body can stand up and play a season of AFL footy before breaking down, then we can look at using him as a power forward.

I beg to differ because when his body was right we were playing him down back!!!!

I mean ffs how many games did he play down back, it was a few, imo he is a natural forward not a backman, it would be like playing jack at FB, it just isn't right.
