Over on the Hawks board there is a thread about pick 15 and Spider, how we NEED another ruckman, we won't get him cheap, blah blah blah....

Jolly had a bad game in the GF, no doubt about it and Cox played the lights out. But Jolly was playing well for the rest of the year and one bad game doesn't end a career (he did break his finger AND his wife had a baby)! Doyle was out injured for a great deal of the season and only really got back in the team about round 17 (IIRC). Ericksen is developing.

Do we need another ruckman?

I would it prefer if we got a full-back and a midfielder.

discuss!:D

I don't know really, i mean with Doyle we have to take into consideration that really he is still quite injury prone. I would prefer for us to focus on getting a fullback but who knows? I'll be happy with whatever Roosy and our leadership group decide on.

How about getting someone like Mal Michael in and putting LRT into the ruck? IIRC LRT went into the ruck once or twice later on in the season (When it was clear Chambers wasn't up to it and before Doyle came back) and he did alright. Has a fair bit of height, (196cm) and has the athletic ability to run with some of the premier ruckmans. Could be a work in progress, but get him out of defense. :(

Food for thought.

I actually was really hoping during the GF that Roos would throw him in just for a little while and try to mix it up. Jolly, Doyle and LRT were all struggling on the day and i would have loved to LRT give it a crack, seeing he's down quite well in the ruck when he's been put in there in the past.

I think we could be onto something. :D Contact Roos, tell him to hold all deals for Spider. :p

I think we have enough ruckman. Jolly, Doyle, Chambers.......Shaw and Ericksen developing. We have 5 ruckmen at the club so that is all we need.

We need to USE pick 15 to get a quality young kid who can play in the midfield. We shouldn't waste it on getting a 32 year old ruckman.

Michael is not committed to footy anymore. Not the right target.

Yes, we need another ruckman. At the moment we have no coverage for the most injury prone ruckman in the comp. If we get Keating cheap he can bridge the gap until Shaw is ready.

chambers will be de-listed. And 2 isn't enough to compete every week of the season. Expecially when you consider Doyle's injury worries. (shaw and Ericksen wont be ready next year)

I doubt Erickson will even be there next year. Same with M.Davis - you can't be at a club for three years and be no closer to getting a game than when you arrived.

Yeah I suppose. What a waste of time Chambers was, we could of drafted a quality kid instead.

I just don't like the idea of giving away such a good draft pick (pick 15) for a 32 year old who will only play 2 seasons. We need to start thinking to the future. Pick 15 will get you a real quality kid.

The swannies proved against Fremantle in the Preliminary final that ruckman don't win games. Sandilands flogged Jolly and Doyle together, but the Swannies' midfielders still won the midfield battle.

We got beaten in the grand final by 1 point with our ruckman getting a bath and Barry Hall kept quiet. If Jolly didn't dislocate his finger a few weeks ago, and Barry Hall or Jude Bolton kicked one goal from their missed shots we would have won.

Don't see the need in chasing Spider Everitt. He's 32. They should start giving game time in the seniors to Andrew Erickson and Earl Shaw.

I agree that we need a full back (Mal Michael type). A centre half-back would be great too (Leppitcsh type). Leo Barry could return to the half back flank where he plays his best footy. LRT is not strong enough for CHB. He needs to get into the weights over summer and bulk up.

I was actually talking to someone last night about Eriksen. He's been on the Swans list for 3 years? How close is he into pushing for 1st team selection? Is he developing well enough that the coaching staff are happy to see he will become a player in our 1st team eventually? I dont get to see the reserve games, but i am just wondering if he is actually developing or if he is going nowhere with potential delisting.

You need a quality ruckman now whilst the window is still open. To bank on unknowns and a dud who no one feels confident with in his preferred position is very short sighted. Roos and his senior core of players would know the value of Everitt and his immediate impact - but at what cost?

Exactly. I would go with Jolly and Doyle, if Doyle gets injured then give Ericksen a chance and blood him. If we get Everitt then it will delay the careers of Ericksen and Shaw for 2 years.

LRT and Leo for full-back, depending on who the key forward is. Luke Vogels is the obvious choice at CHB.

I think one of the Swans key problems is a monster of a FB. Barry and LRT struggle and get exposed by strong marking FF's in the Lloyd, Pavlich types. I'd rather LRT out of defense.

How about giving Chambers to Hawthorn in exchange for Everitt? Maybe we could have won the premiership this year with him in the side. He's handy for a couple of goals too.

Hope the swans make the right choices regarding players because I reckon we've got 2-3 years left in Hall, O'Loughlin, Kirk etc.

No one would want Chambers.

LRT went forward in the GF for awhile, he looked OK.

He got a lucky goal, other than that he did nothing. He dropped an easy mark in their forward 50 and had the fumbles a few minutes later, which from that the Eagles got the clearence and possibly even a goal came from it.

I hate LRT going forward, i actually freak out for him.

Perhaps, but the reality is that they aren't available. There's only three 'monster' full-backs in the league under 30 - good luck getting any one of Rutten, Scarlett or Glass out of their clubs.

Unfortunately, the club has dropped the ball in this respect in terms of drafting. I know that Roos rates the rookie draft as the value bet in terms of drafting KPPs - and we have gotten Grundy and Vogels that way. That's not a lot of depth though, and one good rookie draft does not a successful strategy make.

In 2003 we drafted Willoughby, Schmidt and Davis. In 2004 we drafted Moore and Spriggs. In 2005 we drafted Laidlaw, Thornton and Brabazon. This year I want to see four kids picked up and I want two of them to be key position players. Any player that is available in the rookie draft is available in the national draft as well... so take the best ones available instead of letting 15 clubs take them first!

Brabazon and Thornton are both WA boys, I saw them play colts footy over here last year, they are both great players.

I think we are fine in terms of midfielders for the moment.

That might be the case, and from what I saw of Brabazon in the pre-season, he looks like a player. But we only needed one of them. We needed a tall with one of those picks.
