Do you miss TJ

I wanted to do a poll seeing how people feel about loosing Travis Johnstone & then do another on around the mid year break to see if peoples opinion has changed.

I don't miss him at all really - much like I felt when we traded Woewodin. There is a part of me that hopes he does well with the Lions, and I think he will, but apart from that I'm not disappointed to see him go at all. It needed to be done.

Dont miss him at all, inconsistancey is one of those things love him one week hate him the next. I prefer consistancey and thats exactley what i hope frank grimes can bring to us. Trav as good as he was when playing at his best wont get any better from here, we traded him when he still had some market value, if we wait another 2 years we get a late 2nd rounder at best for him.
I also hope he does well in brisbane though and think he will. Brisbane were already my second fav. team so now i have even more reason to watch them.

I think we made the right call. He epitomised what frustrates me about the Dees - so totally inconsistent. 40 possies one week, 20 combined the next fortnight. Also was found wanting when we really needed him (not alone there though) in so many games. We got a good enough pick for him so it had to be done.

Saying that though, i think he is a great smokie for the Brownlow. Hope he goes well up there (but not when we play them);)

I would rather have TJ, a proven star at his best, than a pick 14.
Trapper will kill it at the lions and I hope he does, I will enjoy watching it.

That's a pretty farcical statement to make without even having seen the #14 in action.

I have seen Grimes play on numerous occasions since he was in the under 15s and everytime i see him i'm more impressed. I believe he will be a great pick up for us :thumbsu:

Spot on. :thumbsu:
He finished in the top 10 of our B & F once in ten years! We have accepted average inconsistant performances for far too long.

It was actually twice, but point taken.

This poll is a load of crap. Bailey recognised that is unlikely we'll challenge for a flag whilst TJ is still playing good footy, so we traded him for pick #14. I agree with what Bailey did and wish TJ well, but I think of him like I think of any other opposition player.

Do miss him but hopefully Grimes will be a 10 year consistent performer.

One thing I disagree is that TJ went missing in big games. His finals record is very good.

When his trade went through yes i was disappointed to lose him,but we all move on he is not with us anymore so we go with who we've got,i think it was a decision that will prove good for Travis & the MFC!

I will miss him yes but less so if Grimes turns out to be a quality player. Missing him, however, doesn't take away from the fact that it was the correct decision to trade him. I still reckon that we could/should have gotten a slightly better return for him but we probably would have taken Grimes if we got pick 8?? off the Lions anyway.

I used to love cheering for Travis when he had the ball; one of my favorites! He is one of those players who (at his best) is just wonderful to watch. However, at times he also appeared lazy. Whether it is because he is so naturally gifted skills wise that it all appears far to easy, or whether he can not be ****ed putting his head down and having a fair crack, i'm not sure.

I do think however; like a lot of others here, that he was far too inconsistent than we expect someone of his calibre should be, and so i voted 'for' his trade, esp. considering his age and so on.

I do have a horrible feeling though, that he we tear us all collectively new a**holes when we play the lions this year. Lets hope i'm wrong!

Other than that, Good luck Trapper.:thumbsu:

I don't get how people can say they'll 'enjoy' watching TJ playing for an opposition club. For faaarrrrkss sake, he's the enemy now, and I'll take no pleasure in watching him kill it for any other side but the Dees. Why should we enjoy other teams success.

And if you went down to Skilled Stadium last weekend, you'll realise that most of the players at our club have a severe lack of class and can't hit targets from 10 meters away.

Geez, some of you posters have been eating too much fairy bread

I know. Slight exaggaration by me.

But their skill level looked like it had gone backwards by some of the senior members.

To be fair it's only their first game for the year. Skills always suck. Takes time to get them into gear!

I'm just comparing TJ with previous pick 14's. At the time of the trade we had no idea which player would be picked.

94: Martin
95: Trew
96: O'Farrell
97: Watt
98: Penny
99: Travis Gasper
00: Harris
01: Ashley Watson
02: Bell
03: Watts
04: Monfries
05: Birchall
06: James Sellar

From these guys, I would take Harris ahead of TJ, but thats it.

grimes is ok, tj was really happy to get out of melbourne he was sick of seeing the club go nowhere, melbourne wont play finals in his last 3 or 4 years at least the lions will give it a crack.

big pete getting his troll on this morning

was a trade that needed to be made, grimes is meant to be VERY good, but we can only wait n see for now

I'd take Birchall, we don't need one paced mids! We have that in spades.

We are screaming out for hard running half backs and Green or Yze aren't the answer I'm afraid.
