It wasn't that long ago, but the way this year has gone it seems like a lifetime.
It was a fine sunny Sunday afternoon and it was the first week of the finals. Melbourne was playing Carlton. What a game that was. Passion and spirit was shown.
11 months later the two rivals meet again. This time at Optus Oval. Melbourne is totally out of sorts. Its amazing what a difference a year makes.
To think back to those glory days. Come Back I say, Come Back,

13th August 2000. Stephen Tingay's 30th birthday, 4 days before my 19th birthday and had i worked at my university all morning for our open day, and then i went to the pub to watch the game with the rest of the melbourne supporters (as we do), only to figure out, the club had given us money to put on the bar WOO HOO :D :D . i was sh*t faced by 3 quarter time, and passed out by 8pm that night. the only other time i had gone that hard after my 18th birthday was 2 weeks later after the prelim at Schwarta pub. hehe :D

and apparently we won the game that day to. i dont know :p :D

Me and my friends managed to get great tickets, we sat in the middle of the Calton cheer sqaud!
And i remember so well how at 3/4 time while the Carlton supporters could see the light of the grand-final i still had hope, i knew we could win.
And indeed the last quarter of that game was the most nerve racking minutes of my life.
My record was long gone, being the victim abuse. And my friend and i couldn't even cheer anymore, our voice was gone!
But still when the final siren blew and i was going "OH MY GOD WE WON WE WON!" i managed to sing our song as i never sang it before, with so much passion and pride. I remember seeing the players hugging, and just as they did, so did the supporters who were celebrating in their stands.
That day is long gone now..... that day WILL come back again! :)

GO DEES! :)

any ways, that day WILL return, it'll come back next yr, and then 2 yrs after that, and 2 yrs after that, because sadly (SP?) our dee boys don't know how to string 2 good seasons together!
any ways, for some resaon, i don't think we'll lose by 98 points again...
good luck to the dees this W/E, they'll need it!!!

hey i just notised (SP?) that we are all quoting eachother in our posts on this thingy!
hehe, how funny (i'm just wasting posts, take no notice of this...)

GO DEES!!!

I remember it so well. I have not yelled, screamed and jumped up and down so much in my life. This is coming from someone who is normally very reserved at the football. It was sensational. I had no voice at the end either. It was one of the greatest games I've been to. Fortunatly I was not around Carlton supporters unlike you poor girls although revenge would be sweet.

Yeah, a really great day...

It was one of those days where everything worked out well in the end....starting in the morning...losing my car keys...finally finding them....and my cat...same thing......etc. etc....trivial I know, but when you are supers***ious, you grab at anything...so I went to the footy full of confidence!!!

Sitting with Carlton and Essendon supporters helped too!!

Memories......seems like years ago though.
Perhaps next year???
Cheers everyone.:D

Actually it was rather good! I couldn't believe it when they left with about 1 minute to go..... I could feel the win.
After coping abuse from Carlton supporters all around us the whole day, it was great to tell them where they can stick their abuse when the Melbourne song was playing.
One thing which wasn't so great, was that an old Carlton supporter who sad behind me pushed me off my chair while i was standing on it singing the Melbourne song. Fortunatly i only had a bruise and didn't break anything; which meant i could go the week after to watch the Dees kick some Roo arse.... :D

GO DEES! :)

It was good to watch some of the highlights of that game on Dee TV last night! Got some of the old passion back.
