In light of the discussion I've been having with Rob on here I thought we would create a poll for who supports Peel's survival.

As this is a sensitive topic for some, from both sides of the argument I'm not going to make the poll public. I also don't want people coming on here and slagging Peel and saying we should be back to the original 8 WAFL teams. Be discrete about your comments.

I've been through this with Swans so I understand where the local supporters are coming from.

I personally am indifferent. They haven't done anything in their time in the WAFL so really they don't have much of an argument. Also it seems like a lot of Australia they've put all their eggs in one basket with investing in the share market which doesn't seem wise. However this year they have gotten better and looked on the way up so maybe its worth keeping them.

Yes for a "peel" based side remaining in the competition.

As for if its the thunder or not is another story.

But a WAFL club from the Peel region is definately needed for the competition. Its a great breeding ground for the AFL as players such as Ray, Reimers, Wells and soon to be Ballantyne has shown.

Like Rob said Overhaul the club.

Peel sounds like the Woodville of the SANFL in a way. It produced alot of good players but did nothing as a club. It basically just became a feeder club.

Well, a very positive response for Peel, which surprised me a little, but it is good to see that most are behind them.

Ballantyne seems like a top bloke, but surely there are more worthy causes than football clubs.

Yeah, but I suppose he probably credits them with his likely AFL career. People have put millions into football clubs in the past (eg. Gutnick, Pratt - who are no doubt many times more wealthy) so it's not like $100k (or whatever it is) is that big an amount.

On the radio this morning they said Ballantyne made a 6 figure donation to Peel out of his grandma's lottery winnings.

Heard this a few weeks ago.

The grandmother apparently won $14m, of which Ballantyne did get a sizable portion.

Fairly weird decision in anyone books by Ballantyne...

The figure given was equal to the so called loss that the club had this season.

Will definately be interested to know where the money is going to be spent exactly.

so it's not like $100k (or whatever it is) is that big an amount.

$300k will go along way into helping Peel IMO, whether some of it is just used to make sure they are using the maximum salary cap, enticing an extra experienced player or two to the club in 2009, for example.

True, he'll be worshipped there for life now as well.

I think he'd be a good bloke to have around any club with that kind of commitment.
