What can I say, this match was damn painful to watch.
It almost looked like the Dockers of old, with no major pressure all over the ground and no structure going into the forward line. Today the dockers had more passengers than the Saudi Arabian Soccer team.
Medhurst didn't get many posessions, but when he did get the ball he used it really well and created a few goals. The mark he took in the second term was an absolute classic and good to see that he went back and kicked the goal. I think he is one positive to come out of the match. I heard that he has some sort of medical condition which prevents him from completing full training and is one of the reasons he is on the bench so much, does anyone know anymore about this??
The big things that stood out for this game were
1) Lack of accountability in the midfield
and
2) Turnovers and bad decision making really cost us.
Two bad turnovers come to mind, from brown and toia. I still can't see why players don't kick long instead of kicking short to a contest. Too many times today we missed targets and to the bulldogs credit they really made us pay for any mistake we made.
Also the lack of accountability in the midfield absolutly killed us. In rebounding from defence it seemed like the bulldogs midfielders could run riot without our players even giving them a second look. Dimmatina, Brown, Giansiracusa, Alvey and Johnson killed us throughout the game kicking the majority of their team's goals.
I guess we just have to be patient and wait for the young players in the team to get a bit more experience. Welldone to the Dogs today though, they were by far the better team on the day and their young players really stood up and contributed to the team really well. As for us collingwood won't be an easy task, but we're almost like a different team at home. Hopefully we can start to find some consistany away in the next few rounds.
