Damn. Can't really remember much of benny during the game but judging by the comments there wasn't much to see.

Was tough seeing him walk off balling his eyes out. Will have a very unfulfilled career.

Oh well, can't all have a fairytale.

The moment that sticks out for me yesterday with Benny is a contest on the left wing where he only had to put his body between the ball and bulldogs player, take the hit, pick up the ball and handball it if possible to the unmarked Swan a few metres in front of the contest. Instead he tried to tap it forward whilst the bulldogs player went harder at the contest, put their body behind the ball and won the ball forward for their team to score.

McGlynn totally squibbed it and gave away a few dumb frees for late contact when he was too slow to get to the bulldogs player.

Whilst I admire anyone that has the fortitude and ability to make it onto an AFL list and the courage to play at the top level I would think Benny has played his last game for the Swans. Thanks for the memories and all of your effort over the years however the game has gone past you Benny and it's time to retire. You were once a favourite player of mine.

I reckon this thread could do the balance between honesty and respect a helluva lot better.
Personally I find dishonesty to be very disrespectful, but to each their own.

Yesterday he played like a sack full of potatoes - this appears to be influencing what posters feel about whether we should retain him in our extremely tight salary cap.

Agreed that he had a poor GF both yesterday and in 2012. I've also stated a few times in this thread and elsewhere that I don't think he should get a contract next year, but some of the comments have been shameful. Calling him a squib? When it's his turn to go, he goes. So he tried to tap the ball to the advantage of a teammate and it didn't come off? It's not that he didn't want it as much as his opponent, he simply thought that was the best option. Also, rewriting history to say that he gave away silly frees is a stupid thing to say when it's easily shown that he didn't give away any free kicks in the GF at all.

Since his recall to the side against North Melbourne, he has had a shocker (against GWS), an invisible game (yesterday), a serviceable game (North Melbourne), a very good game (Adelaide) and two blinders (Geelong and Richmond ... obviously, only one of those really counts!). Would we have made the GF without him? Yeah, we probably would've, but he was definitely a huge part of those strong starts in the semi and preliminary with his forward pressure and constant harassment.

I'm not saying you have to be dishonest, but just be a bit classier about it.
