also an intersting note the 3 teams who have beaten us occupy spots 2, 3 & 4 on the ladder

Yeah it's looking good we just have to make sure we consolidate next week against a Saints outfit which have won 3 in a row and full of confidence. And Milne will be back as well.

Interesting to note also that West Coast and Fremantle are #1 and #2 in the "points for" column - an area both sides were seriously crap a couple of years ago.

The Dockers are still conceding over 100 points per game, though - that's probably something that needs to come down in order to be a serious threat.

Actually quite happy with the way our defense is going , they are a very young lineup down there and will surely improve with age & experience

Goals conceded is more a reflection of the lack of defensive pressure and accountability in some games rather than our defenders getting beaten by the opposition forwards.

also studying the ladder I find we are now ranked #2 for points for & ranked #10 for points against

Absolutely. Historically, though, it's the tight defensive teams that come through at the business end of the season.

The fact that they were conceding 102 points per game (13th in the league) was the main reason why the Eagles were always going to be Finals also-rans last year, and it will probably be the same for Fremantle this year. (Not that being Finals also-rans is a bad thing, so long as you can use it to step to the next level)

In recent years only North Melbourne have managed to top the ladder or win the flag without being one of the top defensive teams.

At least we cut that down this week.

The defence can be tighter, but the light is on and the club is working on this. I am happy that the club is prepared to show that even though they win, they are still not happy with a couple of aspects of the game. Are they actually developing a more meaner outlook?.

We do need to cut down our points against but one good thing about our current defence is that it is attacking and creative and being so young will only get better.
