Our defence was pretty shaky in 2016 & we put in worse performances than that mid season. I don't know what people expect. 100 point margins every game ? Collingwood are ladder leaders and win heaps of close ones.

We have a very healthy percentage and are such fun to watch - we play a risk/reward high game that can look foolish, and our backs aren't great one-on-one with the best key forwards.

Yep, very happy with his game tonight. Xerri is good opposition. I read earlier in the thread that commentators were apparently highlighting his need to be more competitive. I'm miffed about that. I thought he tried really hard to exploit any advantage he had, using his leap and mobility to cause problems when he couldn't match it with brute strength. Clearly one of our best I thought.

I only saw the last quarter and there were probably 4-5 howlers each way in 30 mins.

We clearly have a different level of expectation or assessment. But extrapolating, they didn't make 40 mistakes in the game.

I liked his 2nd half, 1st half I hated. Yes he kicked two goals, but my gosh was he uncompetitive at times. It put our backs under a lot of pressure that they can't handle.

I would've thought the awkwardness and cringe of it all was the point.

I cant see any other purpose for it.

I do however enjoy it when a random uses their minute in the spotlight to take the piss, before a producer screams in Bryans ear to move on.

I think the difference in 16 was that we looked invincible when the ball hit the ground. Our big failing then was teams that kicked and marked through us. And yes, goals out the back.

I’m baffled that anyone could think North got stitched up by the umps. The umps were crap both ways but:

- they were hacking at Darcy and actually plenty more of our players all night. Like their marking contests were never ball oriented and then it’d go up the other end and we’d get done for an arm chop. Coffield had a spoil in the last which is how they defended all night and he got pinged

- they scored a goal from Simpkin throwing it and Zuurhar getting one of the most criminally bad nudging free kicks from Truck that I’ve ever seen

- people complain about insufficient intent. I’ve always been a contrarian who likes teams being punished for being shit and just hacking it toward the boundary line. All were there except maybe the one that came off Pink’s head but the replay and live looked very different

- yes Zuurhar deserved a free/mark for what happened to Darcy all night

- they appealed a bont htb in the fourth which wasn’t a free because he never had clean possession. He took the ball, the north players hand on it meant he could never gather it to become a clean disposal



- north are shit and they play like a bunch of scummy hacks that can’t play football properly. Tonight they got rewarded for it. Too bad one or two decisions went against you

Yeah that's fair. He has always been a bit that way with his kicking, especially at this level but i'll cut him a little slack there this week being his first game back, and the heat from North was pretty good especially early. I really liked his tackling and physicality around the contest also that he brought, I definitely think there's a spot for him in the side.

Naughton has been great the last couple of weeks, other than his poor game against the Tigers he's been in very good form.

Surprised at people liking Garcia's game. Either absolute panic with the ball and he gives it off without a second thought even if the receiving player was in a bad position, or he held onto it way too long and dumped it forwards with a snap to nobody. I would much prefer Mcneil. He's not the best but at least his touches have purpose.
Hopefully Harmes and Davidson are good to go next week. A few people in the team this week not up to it. Really undoes the chain of possession.

It’s literally the difference between decent and great midfielder. Plenty of grafters out there that can win a ball and do nothing with it.

I like Garcia but I don’t know if he’ll make it. West’s progress / reinvention as a forward should give me hope. But I don’t know if Garcia could ever be anything other than an inside mid.
