I’m with Bev on this. I’ve always thought the criticism of McNeil was over the top. I get that he lacks a lot of polish around goals, but he doesn’t deserve to be pilloried for maxing out as a ‘nearly’ player that has given us something useful in a role we have really struggled to fill. For one of the last blokes picked he’s solid.
Agreed.. i loved that he called it out expressly

If you watch it from the side, the umpire is in clear view. He starts to bring the whistle to his mouth as coffield punches the ball away, and the ump calls play on.

Yes, of course he brought the whistle to his mouth. He's anticipating a mark and is getting ready to blow the whistle. That's a totally normal thing to happen when it looks like a player is about to take a mark. Umpires anticipate things. But he concluded that the mark wasn't held long enough so he didn't blow it. So what's your point?

What an arrogant bunch of flogs they are. Loved sitting in a bay with 95% hawks supporters, one of my most enjoyable nights at the footy in a long time. This team isn't the best dogs team I've seen but geez they have some ticker. We were gone for all money at half time. Absolutely ground that win out with guts and determinationm go U doggies 💪

id love to see every sanders touch from the last couple of weeks. He’s a bit of a bull. He gets the ball and cares little for the tackling pressure of opposition. Takes his time and knows how to put us at an advantage. Starting to see the star upside.

His development is crucial because the weight of numbers he provides keeps oppo accountable and makes them have to pick their poison. Invariably that helps get Ed and Bont off the chain.

When he was younger he’d occasionally shirk and let contests and tackles pass him by. Now he is just this irrepressible bowling ball with clean hands who chugs along from contest to contest making his presence felt.

The AFL app has videos of all touches and plays (tackles, spoils etc) from each player after every game.

They’re usually available a couple of days after the game.

Completely agree though, Sanders has turned himself into a key player in a very short period of time.

Less a reflection on on-field behaviour and more general behaviour at the club. Not defending Sicily by any means

Bont is everything a captain is, that Sicily isn’t. You don’t behave like that on field as a leader

From our losses last year I believe in only one game (Geelong) did we lose having more scores than the opposition.

I’m not trying to split hairs here, 1.11 is ludicrously bad and regardless of shot location you’d expect a decent team to convert better than that.

The players worked their backsides off in that second half, and thoroughly deserved the win. But let’s not pretend it was a coaching masterclass when a 3.9 second half from the hawks would’ve led to a loss.

Most of us are entrenched in our positions now - you’ll see anything through Bevo-tinted spectacles and mine are the opposite. That’s fine, let’s hope you’re right and I’m wrong and we go on a run to end the year and launch into 2027 as a genuine flag threat. And not that we end up seeing more years of mid-table finishes and no finals wins.
I think that most of us are not entrenched in our position on Bevo.

I believe the majority of Bulldogs folk on here wax and wane on whether Bevo is doing a good job or not.

There are some who are very vocal and who never miss an opportunity to make their strongly held views known. They treat the rest of us as somewhat idiotic for not seeing that Bevo is an underappreciated genius... or is flawed and has run his race.

Very happy I went to the game last night!

I don’t think we exactly played out of our skins to win that, which is promising. But we exhibited a ton of resilience and fortitude to grind it out.

The second quarter was frustrating, as from up in the stands you could sense the momentum had shifted to the Hawks but instead of settling and bunkering down we were just itching to bite off too much to get things going our way and eventually made enough little blues in a row to give way to a run of Hawks goals.

Our decision making when kicking was baffling at times throughout the game, we took a number of really poor options each quarter and handed the Hawks a fair few repeat I50s.

I see this as a positive though, as we won but still have some real scope for improvement.

Less experienced players like Arty are just consistent games away from being really good. He’s does everything you could ask for from an effort perspective and does so many good things, but still makes some little mistakes that really hurt us, like running himself into trouble a couple of times or burning Kennedy pretty badly by not handballing when Kennedy was clear on goal (very hard to see on the broadcast). These are experience and not ability issues.

My take away is our lids should stay firmly on, but there’s no reason not to be optimistic. The team is showing tons of fight and is winning games despite not totally hitting their straps and relying on a number of kids.

Why does Mabior Chol act like prime Buddy every time he kicks a goal? Absolute flog of the highest order, with his midget buddies Watson and Ginni not too far behind.

Speaking of Ginni was he on the sauce last night? An all time donut of a performance.

As mentioned by someone else, I think our wins in recent games have proven we might just compete if we can get there. Take out the Hawks Geelong Sydney string of losses when injuries were at their worst, we’ve been solid in every game bar the Carlton loss. Even nearly knocked off Freo with plenty still out.

I think Lobb has become one of our most important players in the last month. Rucking well, providing a good forward option and still being used to plug a hole down back when needed.

I think it's almost a blessing that the bad injury period was against the top teams that we were 50/50 to win anyway rather than pushing a likely win against mid table sides into a loss

Was a mark earlier in the night I think to Chol on the wing where he spilled it soon as he hit the ground (had it for less time than Lewis) but the ump had already blown the mark in anticipation so he kept it.

Still might be the worst decision I’ve ever seen, thank **** it didn’t decide the game
I have re-watched the last quarter several times now (so good). There were bad calls both ways.

The umpires were very bad, but they actually ‘put the whistle away’, which is better than the alternative.

When English got that knock to the face I immediately thought, oh no, not again. The past few weeks have shown just how important he is to team success. In the last quarter I thought his determination and aggression (a word I've never used to describe him before) was telling in our victory. Not much fun being smacked in the face but last night Tim shrugged it off and played a dominant role.

Bevo - in ✅

I think we’re back ladies and gents.
He’s a great motivator when we’re in adversity.

Another club would start to implode after a run like the one we had after game 4 but we’ve held in there by the skin of our teeth.

To go from so many close losses last year to delivering heartbreak to others every other week this year is quite something.

would be nice to have a lower level team every now and then! Crows and Hawks twice before 5 or 6 other teams is ridiculous. In saying that, I think if we can win next week, we’re the real deal

I’ll eat my words, I said two weeks ago that Coffield shouldn’t be near our team. Felt he mad many mistakes leading to goals in previous games.

I’ll admit I was on the Hynes hating bandwagon, felt he didn’t impact games, took too many rushed kicks to turnover.

I’ll admit I thought Cody coming back in after so long was madness.

I’m so happy I’m wrong. Sometimes being a pessimist has its upside, when you just get everything wrong.

Huge win. Now I have a sore head

Still have a few brutal games left for the year in Sydney at Sydney & Freo at Optus but both our losses came at the height of our injuries but I think that this was a season defining win. We'd usually give up or leave the comeback too late in the past but this time we just went flatout in the second half.
