Over skills. If it comes down to a player with great skills over one with crazy speed please go the skills. I would rather a player who can find the pill and use it over one that can just run fast. A lot of the great midfielders arent crazy quick but ever since Judda people think it is the greatest thing ever. Great skills means that even under the pump you should be able to hit a man lace out from 50 9.5/10 times - like the bulldogs.

So if its two players

Player 1 - crazy speed, average skills

Player 2 - average speek, crazy skills

Take player 2 Geelong.

Tenace

Woji

Both players, whilst good are only serviceable. I think most would agree that their speed asset is, well, nullified to an extent where, I don’t care if they are in the team.

Good players create space through poise, balance and awareness. A player can exploit these talents further with speed. A speedy player cant create this shi!t if they just don’t have it.

As long as he isn’t an ING, like Ling or King we should be fine. If one more person mentions “we need a player with speed” without saying the other things first is a ****wit and will be cained by me. Until I am booted off the board, shut the **** up

Burns. I had hope when i saw him dob a goal from outside 50 against sydney in like his first or second game or some****.

cmon...

He hasn't had a good year and has been in and out of the team.

While I agree that his skills can be better, this instability would definitely impact on on his confidence. VFL and AFL are very different, and in VFL, he's played for virtually the whole game without being benched, while in AFL, he's not on the ground for long.

Again, it's instability, and not all of it is his fault - Bomber must instill confidence in his younger/fringe players.

-cough- And... it's spelt Byrnes.

He's done about as much as Kennedy this year.

Varcoe has just come off a serious foot injury, and also had a small tear in his hammy also. Get off him, give him a chance.

Wojak is what sort of pace we need, guys who can break through the lines and have the guts to take on a tackle. He also has had a lean year, mainly due to injury. Though he has looked good in some games, the spark is coming back for him. Next year he will be good.

Others like Tenace, Byrnes and Mackie need to put a bit of weight on and work on their foot skills. With good pace and accurate kicking skills they will be better for the team.

Yes we need a player that can acually kick the ball because we only have 2 (Hunt and Ricco) and 1 of them is about to retire.

I think the general notion that speed becoming an overrated asset has its merits. Certainly there are many other factors to be looked at on top of the fact that a guy can run the lines and break the game open every so often.

It's why I still hold some reservations over a guy like Jetta (and to some extend, Trav too for that matter) who's disposal is still very hit and miss to really get me on the bandwagon.

We just need a bloody good, classy player - be he a blue collar guy or a speed demon.

That's not true .. Kennedy has actually done well in the VFL :thumbsu:

whats everyone getting so upset about, I'm not knocking the kid. I just don't think his disposal is all that great - big flipping deal.

The thing about the Bulldogs is that they have a few players who have both. That is what we really need - someone who can carry the ball, take a couple of bounces, and then hit a bloke on the chest lace out from 50. Like the Bulldogs.

I still say the killer trade of the year would be KK for Eagleton. Win-win.

I agree but at the same time most good teams have players with speed

Adelaide: Mattner, Mcloud
Sydney: Kenelly
Westcoast: Judd
St Kilda: Gram

Admiteddly with the exception of gram they have elite level disposal as well.

Exactly. I am not saying DONT get speed, I am trying to point out that other factors are a LOT more important. Guys that are of medium pace, who have great kicking, handballing and also the ability to balance, turn, and make space and position are just more valuable.

I dont want an actual SLOW player, but medium pace preferably strong in the hips is fine.

Turnovers KILL a team in the modern AFL, you turn it over, teams are going to PUNISH you.

I agree, lets please not recruit another player who cant hit the side of a semi trailer; half our plyers dont have a clue what to do with the footy or how to dispose of it properly.
We desperately need a skills coach that can teach them how to deliver the ball and I reckon he would have a couple of years work in front of him without adding any other duds.
