Perrie hasnt played for 6 weeks and must be underdone.

Gill has had 3 good games in the SANFL. He can mark and the conditions at the Telstra Dome would have been ideal for him. He is an unknown for St Kilda and why did we draft him if we wont play him in a game where we were a clear big man short?

ok, I can almost buy that :thumbsu:

Yes, in hindsight that extra tall could've been useful, but how were we to know that Rutten and Bock would both get injured?

Hindsight wasn't needed.

It was bloody obvious before the game.

DUMB selection is going to cost us a golden opportunity of a flag. Where's Wally?

Ian Perrie hasn't played since the game against Melbourne in Round 10. Including the one week break, thats 6 weeks on the sidelines with a pretty serious injury.

Coming back from injury he always struggles big time. If he'd played tonight, there would be probably be 4 threads on how bad he was.

I'm not a huge Nick Gill fan, but he has had consecutive good performances in the SANFL since returning from his own injury.

If we wanted to give Nick a game, this was the night.

fair enough :thumbsu:

Golden Opportunity at a Flag? Serious......

We had our chances in 2005 and 2006. This year was always going to be the start of a transitional period, where the kids/backboners started assuming the key roles.

We were always going to be up and down and obviously the injury curse has been a disaster. We were never going to win the flag this year, this year was about replacing the fab 4 in the middle. I think they've performed pretty well.

Thompson leading the B & F, Knighta not far behind and VB having a great year.

Not to mention the makeshift forward line, that just splutters along.

This is an open year for the flag, more than most.

We were a serious chance, until tonight.

Opportunity lost.

I'm bloody furious.

I know it sounds a little far-fetched, but this is an odd year.

Every team but Geelong are having their ups and downs and is beatable on any given day. As for Geelong, they still are the Pussies and IMO will be vulnerable in the finals.

Yes, it's a long shot, but Kane is right - this is a flag that any team could win this year.

West Coast will win it and win it easily.

We were very ordinary tonight, but what do you expect from a side where the younger guys have been handed the reins?

Thompson, Knights, VB and Reilly are all very good talents. Even Maric I thought spent more time in the ruck than Huddo. At least equal. They're learning and learning very quickly. But they're not McLeod, Edwards, Goodwin and Roo, who have all been handed more limited roles (Some forced obviously)

These guys aren't going to carry us over the line every week and at this stage in their careers the Fab 4 aren't either.

It's sensible work from the coaching staff.

No worries. Stop the competition now![

& I suppose it was sensible selection too.

They're the best, they're finals proven and when they hit form they'll be unstoppable. Delete my account if they don't win it this year.

Not quite sure how that got dragged into it.

Who was the best team this time last year? If you can pick the GF winner in July evey year, you must be making a $hit load of cash!

Get serious. This is an open year for the flag. Anyone who finishes top-4 could win the flag. Apparantly our selectors don't think this is necessary.

Well, just remember this thread after West Coast are holding up the 2007 Premiership Cup. While everyone is abandoning ship, I'm staying on.

Did they get tonight wrong? Yeh they most probably did.

Have they got it wrong before? Yep

Will they get it wrong again? You bet

People make mistakes, costly mistakes. But you can't seriously suggest that tonights mistake of not picking a tall, will cost us a flag? Especially when it's highly doubtful that we're half a chance anyway.

If we made the top-4, IMO we are serious chance.

I'm confident most people think the same.

Why don't you go & mortgage your house on West Coast. I'm sure it will make you feel better for our opportunity lost.

Yep I agree, sneak into 4th get a decent run with injuries and a bit of form and we could give it a real shake up but it looks unlikely and for me its West Coast all the way but anything can happen. Its amazing how much opinions change on the back of one game (and two points).

Yup the competition is that tight, we could possibly sneak into the Top 4, but we've been saying that for a few weeks now. Improvement has to come for that to be a possibility and definitely some luck with injuries.

We didn't play a good 2nd qtr tonight, but in fairness the saints played a pretty bad 1st qtr. So in saying that we definitely deserved to win as much as the saints, but having those injury problems really upset our structure and gave the saints a vital advantage in legs in the last qtr.

Overall I it wasn't the worst game we've played but damn its frustrating and definitely a missed opportunity to get both feet in the top 8...
