Robert Muir going nuts, i was sitting in the Social Club.
Cant remember which umpire it was, someone will remember.
Another memory against St Kilda was Dennis Collins getting belted, pretty sure that was also Muir.
It was at Moorabbin.
I was there the day Collins was felled by the Hollywood punch. The Saints fans in the Animal Cage went nuts. Cheering, of course.

.....was Kevin Smith, who murdered him that day.

Got reported the same day v the Bombers at Windy Hill in the juniors.

As luck would have it, we had to sit in the naughty boys room on the second floor of the old Brunton Avenue VFL House. There was a huge protest, and rightfully so, from the Saints fans out the front. Tribunal killed him ..........reckon he got the season.

I snotted the bloke, behind the play in a cowardly action, that is still the best punch I ever threw, was reported by 5 of the 6 available umpires on the field, and only got 6 weeks.

A very good man, Ian Findlay, represented us both.
Must admit I played hundreds of games and was never reported but my admiration for you grows. I saw what happened, the guy deserved it. That's why the penalty was light, severe provocation. :thumbsu:

To this day it is the ugliest reaction from a crowd I have ever witnessed. Closest thing to seeing someone kill Bambi ever!!

Wasn't thought of back then but was for the Milburn and SOS incident. That reaction was bad!

Anyone know how Barb is these days?
I sometimes saw her at the footy but havent for several years now.

Same. Always at Princes Park and after training ( I used to go when I was a kid). Haven't seen her at the footy in years. And her two friends.

One of my fave games was out at Waverley. last home and away of 87, against North. Sticks kicked the winning goal after the siren. I was watching through my fingers and on the edge of the old wooden bench seat. Remember Kenny Hunters dash down the wing in front of us. Felt like an eternity for us to get out of the car park. But i didnt care, was smiling from ear to ear and looking forward to the finals the following week.

yeah sorry thats right. melbourne beat footscray i think, not sure who hawthorn played. but was important to results. Great year and exciting finish heading into finals. I was 14 years old and remember wearing out the grand final video over the next few months. awesome year.

I am still going to slap him if I ever see him in Adelaide.

That is the most full-on crowd reaction I have seen/heard. Not to mention Murphy having a go at the prick

Never been to game like it.
Pretty sure Milburn got a police escort back to his car after the game.

I was at that game.
From memory that win put us on top of the ladder and a week off.

Were you on the radio listening to the results of those 2 other games? Sticks' goal put us on top and gave us the week's rest. Er, hello 15.

I was there Thy, Sticks in true champion style delivered when it mattered. If I recall Hawthorn played Geelong and that result was also close. Sticks putting it through meant top spot for us. I actually reckon that kick and result won us the big one that year!

One of my better memories of VFL Park along with the 93 final against the Crows and the mid 80's ANZAC day match against the Bombers where Alvin kept one low into a howling wind we were kicking into in the last quarter!! :thumbsu:

I went to the game at the Western Oval with a mate who's a mad Demons fan. Kept a close eye on the progress scores on the scoreboard. I think Melbourne needed more than just a win to make the finals. May have depended on the game at Kardinia Park as well. I think the Hawks made a late surge to win the game. A young Garry Lyon was carted off with a broken leg just to add to the memories. Pretty exciting day all round. I knew Carlton won but didn't know the circumstances until later. It was a great final series. Melbourne absolutely belted North Melbourne in the Elimination Final :D Carlton won an exciting Semi Final at Waverley. My recollection of this was Sticks and Braddles combining to seal the game. Nothing better in footy than a fleet footed Bradley collecting the ball and taking off with several bounces and Sticks climbing high to take a screamer. The Jimmy Stynes match happened the week after. I was there and I'll never understand how the Dees lost the match. The Grand Final was sweet revenge for the previous season. Only GF where I wore a singlet and got sunburnt

You ain't Robinson Crusoe. Wind changed 3 times in that game, and Melbourne had it every time.

The last quarter is like some football tragedy........Campbell runs into an open goal misses from 15, Simon Eishold from inside the square misses. Langford, kicking out from a point barrels one up the guts with a minute left, goal to the Hawks. Ball goes up in the middle, ends up with Bucky.......and Jimmy goes into football infamy.

There's a famous photo of Stynes going into the rooms, and in the background is John Northery.....about to enter Warp Factor 8.

A very close friend of mine is a Melbourne fan and he was at that game.

Years later when Waverley was closed down we were playing golf at Kingston Links. One of the holes on the back 9 has a very good view of the Sir Kenneth Luke Stand. The day we played was a cloudy cool day, perfect VFL Park conditions. I remember him saying to me that it still sent a shiver up his spine looking over the ground thanks to that day.

It is an incredibly emotional ride being a football supporter, I really felt for him that day as the anguish of that in an Elimination Final would be heartbreaking.

Sir Kenneth Luke was a visionary, without a doubt.

As President of Carlton back in the day, did you know Princes Park was originally the venue for the Melbourne 1956 Olympics?

Go look it up.

....let me guess, the ticket prices were too expensive in the Legend's Stand so they shifted it to the G!? :(

The Footy Record was a bit different when Fletcher first started playing.

The great print, back in the day, was the Monday Arvo Gravure print of the Grand Final in the Herald.

They used to do it on the old Glenferrie Press, dirty great huge Copper press plates, used to print it on wax paper.

The most magnificent, state of the art print, everyone would pay the extra 2 cents for.

Does anyone remember when Dennis Banks king hit David Rhys Jones and knocked him out?
I cant remember what year it was but i know it was at the MCG in front of the members stand.
