Can these files be played in dvd players?
Easily converted with the right software.

Some DVD players can play them straight off the bat.

Also do you have to download the whole file at once, because i was looking at a few whole seasons and its like in excess of 3GB, i got cable but thats still a fair wait.
If they're recent, most shows can be downloaded episode by episode.

But generally, for a whole season, you'll need to wait until everything has downloaded before you can begin watching it. Though if you use Azareus, I think you can pick and choose which files (episodes) get downloaded.

As for me, I've heard that episodes of Family Guy, The Simpsons, Arrested Development, South Park and the US Office that are yet to screen here are quite good.

Just saw pt1 CSI 'finale' on Nine. http://blogs.smh.com.au/entertainment/archives/the_tribal_mind/002879.html

I'm in the process of downloading the rest so no waiting 'til 2006 for me.

This was the first TV show we downloaded. The quality was great full digital sound etc etc, no ads and we had the full 2 hours!

Have now downloaded the full season of 24 series 4 cos I missed the first few when ir was on FTA and figured I would wait for the DVD's to come ou. Now I donlt have to. TV shows are excellent quality better than watching it through my digital set top box. Will do more and more of it once we get the cable connection installed. Movies however are always crap quality so we don;t bother with them any more.

just one more tip. get down to crazy clarks or somewhere and buy a cheap dvd player that plays mpeg4's. Ours cost $60. That way you can burn the shows to cd and not have to have a dvd burner or use any special conversion tools or anything.

I normally just plug my computer into my TV. Otherwise just watch it as a data file on the cimputer.

This sounds fantastic - for all the legally shared stuff of course!

How does the "leeching" thing work? Is your computer always connected to whatever is doing the downloading? Or can you choose when people have access to whatever you have on your machine (e.g. work hours c.f. after hours)

And is 512kbs fast enough for these services?

And do ISPs frown upon their usage?

'Leeching' occurs whenever yor connected. You should be careful as uploading by others is still counted if you have a download limit. If you want you can change the 'leeching' option ie. restrict to say 6kbs.

512kbs is perfectly fine. You'll probably end up dowloading at around 50kbs.

Each ISP policy will be different. If you have a download limit you should be careful.

I've heard that the VLC video player is very handy for playback for some files. Might be found under videolan. Apparantly.
Lost, Prison break, Arrested Development (now cut from 24 eps to 13 in series 3, boo)...they are all good, so I hear...
Also many new movies may be available...possibly happened that Saw 2 was downloadable after 3 days from US release...I heard
