Re: Draft Camp Results

Unless it was the strictest beep test of all time..pretty average results and very suprising that the best time was 10.17 for the 3km especially considering it was on an athletics track...although it was very hot you would expect a fair bit better IMO.

Absolutely agree, surely there is another variable that's influencing the results? I know a few of the guys got well over the recorded beep test results, and Hannebery had a 3k in the early 9 minute period from Oakleigh earlier in the year.

Re: Draft Camp Results

Adelaide, bite the bullet and take a risk draft TOM SWIFT, what a gun. His injuries have not seemed to hinder his draft camp results, and we know this kid can play football. Top 5 pick barring injuries.

What does anyone else think?

Re: Draft Camp Results

i think considering that freo need pace, unless they can get lovett then they should overlook rich and go for some pacy midfielders, at least top 10 in the draft camp results?

Tenance is heapzzzz quik bro, you should get him!

The beep test was held on Thurs evening 5 to 6pm and the 3k was 9-10am Friday morning. Last year the 3k run was in the early afternoon. They had less recovery time this year.

Re: Draft Camp Results

Thanks for that. Good time by Hannebery, but surprising no one else made it under 10:30 on an athletics track, considering the good beep test times.

The Beep test times weren't that great though, 14 is still good, but last year 2 got to 15 and a few other would've beaten this years time. Because of those beep test results i'm not suprised that no one ran under 10 minutes for the 3km.

Agreed, bit disappointing considering I've heard a fair bit about Hannebery's aerobic potential, would have expected him to crack 10, but I suppose at the end of a draining footy season + draft camp that took the edge off a few.

Does anyone know if the 3k results (and maybe beep test as well) are really taken into serious consideration by the recruiters? How much impact does a person's basic endurance ability really have after a few pre-seasons at an AFL club, when you'd expect almost all players to be around the elite mark?

I think that the testing may have some impact on some of the maybe 4th 5th round hopefulls, but if you heard mick malthouses interview last night on fox sports news ,he mentioned that recruiters have been following these boys over there season and have an idea on these guys athletic abilities on the field ,and he vertually said that the camp was a good chance for all the clubs to get the guys together and have formal interviews with them with the coaches there, and that the draft camp means jack all!

And personally i think Mick is right.

Re: Draft Camp Results

Is a full list of results available...really want to see some times for Robinson and Ziebell

Ziebell not in any of the top 10's for anything as far as I could tell.

Sidebottom looks extremely fit. I hope Carlton take Hurley/Sidebottom over Ziebell now (if we keep Pick 6 ;))

Yeah, thats why I want a full list to see what those not in the top 10 got

by the looks of the results Shuey has had a pretty decent camp. really impressive player will be a bolter i reckon.

thoughts...

Does Shuey 'play' fast TAC cup watchers? In the televised game he showed good agility in traffic in some instances, but didn't really use his pace to break lines. Is this how he normally plays? Were his results unexpected?

I would bet a nut that the recruiters would look more keenly at the endurance results than the decision making and peripheral vision garbage with the lights.

What a load of trollop.

Actually the psychomotor testing was an area Simon Black excelled at during draft camp and is used particularly as an indicator as to how well an inside midfielder will dish the ball out in heavy traffic.

PS And yes I do know he also did a top endurance athlete.:)

And he still got drafted in the thirties. ;)

You were right in the first post, this year it's 18 by 31/04/2009, next year it changes to 18 by 31/12/2009. So only 8 months worth of ineligibles from this year

One positive there may be is that with there being lots of talent around this year, younger guys will get an even bigger 2nd crack then ever before next year because the pool will be much smaller.

I've heard of leap year with an extra day in Feb... but an extra day in April??? :D

Well in those days he was considered very much an outside player (receiver) and that's why he was overlooked by our recruiters and I suspect many others. One of the bigger blunders by our Club.

No, people think it is an indicator of decision making skills under pressure. It's trollop.

What's the first rule of sports science - task orientated challenges? Running tests cardiovascular endurance. Agility running tests your agility while running. Jumping tests your vertical leap.

Pressing buttons does not correlate to how quick you can dish out a handball in traffic. 5 minutes of watching these boys play would tell you more about their decision making skills and their ability to work in traffic than these tests will ever do.

Exactly.
Choosing the correct button is completely different to assessing a situation on the football field and then making a decision.
