But in reality, I would think the only logical benefit is it allows some time for pick swaps after the first round is done and dusted (ie you get a chance to see who's left and what potential moves up/down the order you may want.

Absolutely....I'd expect all the live-trade pick shenanigans to go down tomorrow night, when most clubs will still have 5-7 players they rate in the Top 20, still sitting there in the open draft.

Can't see any transpiring tonight, but I'm happy to be proven wrong there.

It's meaningless here, there is no theatre of event at this scale and half the players picked are no names that no one has seen play and it's another example of a pathetic attempt at trying to copy American sports.

Because the draft now is far more complicated that ever before with live trading plus being able to use future picks, doing every round with live trading and future picks is far too complicated and will take too long. These are kids and clubs futures being decided, no need to rush for TV.

A bit of a joke really, they really should be going back to the original format where they go through the entire draft in one night, but with an increased focus on all the first round draft picks.

Could easily have done it in 3 hours.

Yep, Even make it over 4 or 5hrs in a single day but start it at like 2pm.
Do the first round over an hour or so, then 1-2hr intermission to give time for posturing/pickswaps.
Then smash out the remaining picks in 2-3hrs.

Trade Radio saying there is too much going on once the 1st round is picked with interviews, highlight packages etc. Said you never see what's happening with round 2 with all of the commotion.
Having it on the 2nd night allows the fans to see who they're getting.

They could start at 9am and finish by 5pm, plenty of time to do swaps and 'decide these kids futures'.

Instead they choose to start COVERAGE at 2:30pm, but only start the draft at 7pm and wrap it up in an hour.
It's all about TV, there's no rush, they are clearly DRAGGING it out for TV, get 2 prime time spots.
