Any chance we could snaffle one of the Bulldogs' first 2 picks? What do we need to offer? I think we should give it a crack.

Article in THE AGE...
Dogs will look at draft deals: Eade
By Peter Ker
August 18, 2004
The Western Bulldogs would be prepared to trade away early draft picks if the right deal came along, new coach Rodney Eade said yesterday.
The Bulldogs are likely to have two early picks in the national draft at their disposal when Eade takes charge in October, and he said he would not rule out trading them.
"The Bulldogs have got a lot of young players, they had two (early picks) last year and their talent of young players 18-to-23 is very high, they've got a lot of them," the former Sydney coach said.
"I will sit down with Campbell (Rose), Jose (Romero) and Scott Clayton and see where we are at with that situation and whether we need another two young players."

how about our first pick and Burton for their first pick. That way we might have a chance of getting Ryan Griffen

Do we have anything the doggies need? - my impression is that they have always been deficient down back (we're building back there) - and more recently up forward. There's no question the doggies will be looking for some ready made players, and so they're probably our most likely target to get earlier picks. I'm comfortable with trading
Burton/Doughty/S Stevens/Gallagher/Ladhams/Shuback
I think we'd be parting with 2 of these for a first round draft pick - no great loss

That's sticking your neck out.

Trading Gallagher! No!

Any or all of Goodwin, Perrie, Burton, Bode. If the Dogs are offering those picks then just throw the kitchen sink at them.

Unfortunately other clubs will have the same idea and will probably have much more to offer than we do.

If you are comfortable with trading them, there is no way in hell you would get a top 5 pick for them.

I'm afraid i'm gonna have to agree with him!

We have nothing to give in return for a top 5 pick. The best i think has been said by baaaalllllll with Burton & our first pick at least then they get a ready made player plus still 2 picks in the Top 10!

or Simon Goodwin (You have to give big to get big)

The reality is that none of the 5 I mentioned are going to pull much interest except for Burton…. – sure throw in a draft pick or a Doughty to sweeten the deal. In my view the following are safe.
Roo / Hart / Hentschel / Kenny M / Stiffy / Watts / Edwards / Reilly
(I could throw in Rutten and Mattner now )

…everyone else is on the table.

Gaggs - 38ish games in 4 years - thats becoming Shirley (49 in 5) / Perrie(66 from 7) -esque

its time to move on
You won't get half a packet of chips for him. He has NO trade Value what so ever.

Burton and Pick 7 for Pick 3 and another player (hopefully Minson)

I think there has to be anothe rlesser player to balance it out a bit BUT I very much doubt it would be Minson. Maybe someone like McMahon

agree re Gaggs worth - I'm just very reluctant to forfeit
#7 pick - I would rather load up on players. Burton and Doughty for Pick 3 outright - absolutely nothing to lose

C'mon lets be realistic if you had pick 3 and you got offered Burton and Doughty for it you would laugh it off

To get pick 3 you have to trade something exceptional

Well I go back to a previous posting - apart from 10 or so players - everyone's on the table...I'm happy to throw what it takes to secure #3 - everyone has their price and its about time we got aggressive. ..also it would send a message to our squad that there'll be no more favours

The Doggies would only trade one of their top picks for an extaordinary deal,
I'm sorry but Adelaide just don't have any players that are young enough, and enticing enough for us !

I think will stick with 2 of the best kidsout of the draft...................

i dont think eade will go with 2 i reckon he wants 1 for the future and 1 for an established player to keep on the boards side with at least some sucess next year

Yes, but he won't want to give away the priority pick (#3?). Pick 6 (or whatever it is) is the one he'll want to trade.

Would be good to somehow get Cooney home too, but we would probably have to do a 3-way deal with another club.

Can't see the Bulldogs being too interested in Macca, as they already have some experienced midfielders. However, the likes of Essendon badly need a gun midfielder, so perhaps a 3-way deal with the Dons & Bullies.

From a source of mine I hear he is not too keen on life at the Bullies and would love a change. Not sure if he wants to come home or anything but he is signed up at the Bulldogs for next season and he has no intention on breaking that deal.
I think we might be better off letting him learn his trade at the Bullies and when he gets more consistant and is a ready made walk in started in the midfield make a huge offer for him.

Its all well and good to say that we should get this player and we should get that player but we have to give up something good to get them. Now as much as I would do it, I just can't see Adelaide trading McLeod for a number of reasons. The only we need to be considering is trading for pick 3 so we can get Griffen or pick up some promising kids that are out of contract (eg Daniel Bell, Will Minson and Will Minson) and Trade Stenglein for a solid pick or a young good ruckman.

We need to rebuild through the draft. Players that people keep throwing up here have a minimal trade value and will not get you much.

BTW, make a run for Cooney next year when his contract runs out and he is ready to walk straight into the 18 for us;)

Eade would be all over a pick 4 for pick 7 and Burton deal, we would be getting smashed in that deal.

I wonder if the dogs have any ageing players with say another year of high salary on their deals, we could take one with our cap space and get a good deal talent wise.
