Anyone 1 of the 1st 3 would really complement our side.

Barrels is this McNugget kid really that good? If so he would fit in well with billings, sincs, gresh and co.
Had a great start to the year, but I think KM's gone off half-cocked a bit.

Heard footsteps in a HUGE way a couple of weeks ago...
Barrels what is your thoughts on Jy Simpkin?
Huge fan, but then again, I would be.

Fair bit of a right-footed Jack Billings.

Early mail seems to suggest that we won't get everything we want in the one player this year, wherever we land ....
  • tall (186cms plus)
  • outside mid
  • excellent kicking skills
  • from Victoria
.... but there are a few (excluding Academy players) who would compliment what we have very well.

These guys (using Knightmare's listings) may end up worthy of our first rounder at this point I reckon:

7. Sam Powell-Pepper (WA)
Position:
Inside midfielder
Height, weight:188cm, 83kg
Recruited from:East Perth
Plays like:Ryan Griffen

8. Jy Simpkin (VIC)
Position:
Outside midfielder/forward|
Height, weight:182cm, 72kg
Recruited from:Murray Bushrangers
Plays like:Zac Merrett

10. Jonty Scharenberg (SA)
Best position:
Inside midfield
Height, weight:185cm, 77kg
Recruited from:Glenelg
Plays like:Callan Ward

Another one for the 'tall(-ish) mid' files....

7. Daniel VENABLES
Ht: 186cm | Wt: 81kg | Western Jets
Venables is a powerful midfielder who can also play in attack. He makes things happen when he is around the ball with his burst from congestion and line-breaking carry. He has averaged nearly five inside-50s a game in his short TAC Cup career. A broken leg last season restricted him to just four games as a bottom-ager but has started the season in good touch with the Jets and PEGS despite a minor knee complaint.

Interested to know who you think we should target in the draft, specifically our 1st round pick?

I feel we can either go 2 ways: we get a genuine clearance contested possession beast or supreme outside class who can run the wing all day

Thoughts on who fits the bill?

Clearance beast is probably Brodie, Powell-Pepper, Scharenberg or Clarke.

Outside class is Petrevski-Seton, McCluggage or Simpkin; of course, others will jump up the boards as the year ticks on.

As for who I'd target?

I guess it depends on where we sit in the draft. My man Josh Begley shows a heap of promise, but is realistically a later pick at this stage as an undersized Stringer-esque forward.

Otherwise Will Brodie or McCluggage if his form continues, and Simpkin if his leg is good to go.

Realistically though Rors, those three may well be gone by our pick, especially Brodie and McCluggage.

I'd say Clarke is right about where we may be picking, and Venables has really shot out of the blocks...

Clarke (can play back)

Venables (can play forward)

So two 186cm powerful stoppage-based mids.:handok:

Barrels early I know, but how do you think this draft will stack up in terms of top end talent and depth compared to other drafts?
Seems the top end is dominated by Academy picks, so that's unfortunate for everyone else, but it means the bidding process and trade period will be very interesting.

Overall I think it's a better draft than last year's, but again it's marred by a poor Vic Metro contingent. They're the bedrock of the draft, and they're not going to be great again this year.

Bishop, Skippos; concur?

Sounds like we need to get to the pointy end of this draft before the Academy pillaging begins.
We're looking too good at the moment to get a Pick 1-4 (*at this stage*).
Our 1st pick + a fringe OR soon-to-be-obsolete player traded to anyone in that Pick 1-4 range.
Nab Petrevski-Seton, Brodie, McCluggage- whoever we want.
We talk about top-end quality, time to go and make it happen- thoughts on that?
Who would be in the gun as steak knives?

You don't trade a superfluous player and a lower pick for a higher pick.

It just doesn't happen.
