Well, read all this about Ainsworth being a smallish mid.

Would saints be happy with paying 2016 1st for Prestia?

If yes, then it needs to be remembered that both Prestia and Ainsworth are 175cm.

Having said that, I'd prefer McGrath (just too good despite the height), Venables, Scrimshaw, Taranto.

As we are seeing the tall players are making a difference in Acres and Bont both showing forward threat.

Taranto is a forward threat. The big question is whether he can transition to the midfield.
McGrath and Ainsoworth are 179cm
Prestia 175cm

Ok..my bad.. maybe I read somewhere (or thought I did) that ainsworth was 175cm.

McGrath was super when playing on Ainsworth in the Vic Metro vs Vic Country game. On being shifted to Ainsworth (who had kicked 4 goals till then), McGrath shut ainsworth down, took multiple intercept marks and set up forward entry chains that won VM the game against Vic Country.

That sort of match winning performance against a quality opponent is why I rate McGrath so highly, despite the height.

Others I am recommending though are of excellent height, Venables at 186cm and Taranto 188cm. Scrimshaw is also around the 190cm mark...

Scrimshaw is 193cm but built like NOK.

Venables I am completely cold on after the latter half of the TAC Cup and AGS seasons.

You can see he's got the tools and ability, he just doesn't seem to put it all together. Flashes brilliance but doesn't dominate games like he should.

I'm torn, because if he does he'll be Dusty Martin-esque.

FWIW, IMO Jack Steele is a big strong clearance player without being a 'typical' inside mid; he's quite classy by foot and a very decent runner at 187cm 88kg. He's more Seb Ross than Dunstan.

Taranto is also strong in the clinches at about 188cm 86kg (or so I'm told), and is quite agile despite not being particularly quick, and being more experienced as a high half forward.

Both offer size and versatility, and Taranto has the physical size to play very early. There's a fair bit of his former schoolmate De Goey about Taranto, whereas Scrimshaw is a Birchall clone.

That would be my ideal trade/first round scenario.

I'd be happy with a 1st for Prestia, he's one of the best ball winners in the contest with or without height.

How do you see us downgrading our pick this year Stew?

Similar to this year think we deal with GWS / Gold Coast for our pick they get what they want for Academy .
and we get player with later pick
Still think Giants will shock by grabbing Marshall with our pick if they get it, they lose " Sunshine " .

GWS & Gold Coast will use all the other 1st rounders on Academy kids similar to Swans did with Mills.

Does anyone remember reading recently where the AFL were considering giving all teams that have not been in the finals for a while an extra pick at the end of the first round? And has it been taken any further?

I just can't see what player we will get form either GC or GWS for there to be a deal to downgrade picks. I think Steele looks like the most likely recruit we'll get out of those two clubs, but would much prefer we just try do a deal around next years second. I think Taranto or even McGrath if he were to slide would be really good for us. I'm not sure who we'd take with GWS's pick, likely to be around 15?

So would I but if you look at this year GWS & Gold Coast they are going play big part this year they will have salary cap issues going forward and need to reduce their list now.

Yeah that'll come into play once we make finals to help teams like collingwood, ess and carlton.

If we can get Jack Steele, a much needed hole is filled.

Could we possibly make a bid for Harrison Macreadie. A lot to go before that decision would be made but it would probably be a close call that the Giants would match on a first after his year

Someone I'm pretty keen on is Bailey Banfield
Not being spoken about much
Got a screening invite
188/189
Good overhead
Reasonable kick
Good hands
Hard at it
In his league debut had 24 touches gets close to 28-23 disposals most games

Will be disappointed he's gone by pick 10, especially considering we'll most likely miss out on Luggage, Brodie, SPS and probably McGrath.

We really need clubs to bid on Bowes early as well as Setterfield or we may well miss out.

Bowes, Setterfield, Marshall and English. Hopefully they push a noice prospect back for us.

Also Ainsbury is tipped to go pretty high. Not sure anyone will bid on Bowes before pick 4 though.

Yes, but dont GC have Melbourne's first rounder?

So presumably Bowes goes at that pick... in other words it didnt matter that Melbourne ended below us because GC use that pick on Bowes anyway....

or am i confused?
