Macrae wasn't that great a risk

He was a late bolter & wasn't considered a top 6 pick until after his performance in the tac granny. They also took a risk on Stringer after he missed a year with a badly broken foot.

If he was going to be available at 7 then it wouldn't necessarily be that hard, but if we needed to move higher than that then we'd really have our work cut out and it almost certainly won't happen, IMO.
Pick 10 and 2017 1st RP for pick 7, Steele and possibly some steak knives.

That would only work if GWS thought they'd have a player bidded on before pick 7 though you would think.

Im wary of giving up next year's first round unless it got us a fantastic deal or player, not just to move three spots up on the list. I doubt it would happen.
I'd rather keep Steele as a separate trade given we could most probably get him for a second rounder.

Looking at GWS's draft picks with consideration to trading out McCarthy, Marchbank (with steak knives) & Steele & wanting to trade up to pick 1, we could really pressure them by bidding on their acacady kids to the point they can't / won't take them all.

GWS currently have picks 7, 16, 17, 32, 34, 54 & 70.

I think they will trade Marchbank & a few fringe types plus pick 16 to Carlton for pick 5. Then bundle 5 & 7 for pick 1.

They will likely get a future 2nd for Steele as we don't have a 2nd this year.

McCarthy is a broken biscuit & likely fetches them freo's third - pick 39.

Pick 1 they will take McGrath & then they have picks 17, 32, 34, 39, 54 & 70 or a total draft points of 2869 to get Perryman, Setterfield, Mccreadie & Mutch.

Let's say we bid on Perryman at 10, Setterfield at 11, Mutch at 12 & McCreadie at 13. With their discount they would need 4168 points to match those bids....that's 1300 extra points they would need to make up.

Even better if a club bids on one of Setterfield or Perryman with an early pick...then we take the other with pick 10.

Unlikely this plays out but it's something to consider. I'd be very happy to have either of Setterfield or Perryman at 10.

Mate of mine son plays at Sandy Dragons and reckons Setterfield has been terrible this year. He rates about 4 ahead of him.

My order of preference from the Sandy kids would be Scrimshaw, Taranto, Florent, Setterfield. I know Setterfield is very likely to go before Florent but I'd bet on Florent haing a better AFL career with his intensity/pressure/desperation in his play and attitude along with everything. He reminds me of Webster a bit like that.

Taranto would be my first picked but I've been on that bandwagon for a while now....exactly what we want and need...

Scrimshaw then Taranto for me. Happy with either though. Just thinking wtf do we do if those 7 mids/flankers are gone hence bringing up Setterfield & the other GWS academy kids. Old mate barrels reckons Simpkin is still in the mix for us at 10.

Taranto definitely better than Scrimshaw.
But Scrimshaw has that size and play to be something special

Taranto has performed better however I like what Scrimshaw brings to the table with his potential, athleticism, versatility & raking left boot.

Was interesting that Plough had Gallucci at 11. That to me says how much this draft could drop off after the first 8 or 9. I'd be very happy if we got him if we traded in a pick closer to 20, as he suits our needs, but if we got him with what is currently pick 10 it would be a pretty disappointing result, IMO (unless he's had some injury issues or the like holding him back this year).

Yeah I know he'll go really high, I was just reminding Hayes4PM, who didn't mention him in his first 4 from Sandy.

Oh snap, completely forgot about him. I haven't really paid him much mind the last few months because it became pretty obvious he would be well gone by pick 10. Would happily take him at pick 10 though lol

This would be the order I'd have for us going into the draft

McLuggage
McGrath
Taranto
Brodie
Ainsworth
SPS
Scrimshaw

Then throw a blanket over Vennables, Florent, Berry, Simpkin and Galluci

Nice. I'd have:

McGrath
Mcluggage
Ainsworth
Brodie
Scrimshaw
Taranto
SPS

Berry
Simpkin
Florent

According to an ITK we won't be going anywhere near Venables.

Funn

I know some dragons players including some who played yesterday
One thinks that in 4 years setterfield will be up there with Bontempeli as one of the top mids in the Comp. also thinks whilst scrimshaw is talented needs to work harder to improve as he is coasting. Thinks he makes way more mistakes then he should. I also think the criticism of Setterfield is harsh considering he only played about 5 tax games. Personally think he is a better prospect then Brodie
