Hoping we can pluck a Tipungwuti out of obscurity, would be exactly what we need.
Love watching that guy play.
Feel like anything could happen, X-factor in bucket loads.
Praying for too much I suspect.

Cedric Cox should be on our radar I reckon Ghost. Played mostly off a half back flank but would look good running around on a wing. Bolton is another one, although we'd have to get very lucky for him to fall that far.

Any outside players in particular you like?

Just looking at Brett Anderson's bigboard, a few outside runners and/or skillful types may make it to 23:

Simpkin (17)
Berry (18)
Ryan (19, doubt we take him)
Vilis (20)
Florent (21)
Bolton (22)
Witherden (23)
Cox (24)

More than one of them will make it to 23, hopefully it is one that we rate

Otherwise, as mentioned, a highly rated athletic 3rd tall may make it to 23:
Ridley (16)
Rotham (15)

both are 192 cm

So most of the players BA rates between 15-24 are ``types" that may interest us, IMO...

I reckon 61 will be the Holmes upgrade. Teams negotiate for picks they're not going to use all the time, they do it to help trades look balanced to the AFL watchdog, the fans and the public.

Plus, also, why would we being the dogs a freebie? Out of the kindness of our hearts? Nah

I could get behind some Narkle magic.

Lok is a Rookie chance at best I'd say, Swans allegedly very keen on Sakeson, Brayshaw is hard to get a read on and Lyons has a lot of similarities with Answerth; he's not great by foot.

As for Williamson, I get the feeling he's somewhere between 36 and 61...

A friend told me the young Bradshaw was looking good about a year ago. Said he looked like a certain high level player. What's the knock on him, his value seems to have drifted out.

Everyone agrees we need outside mids run speed and skills - so lets just target those kids that have it now not someone who we think may be turned into a classy outside midfielder. GALLUCCI, BOLTON, VILLIS, C. COX, FLORENCE, PARFITT, RONKE are in the vein of the kids we desperately need and for me that poistion should be our first priroity at #23!

Don't forget we will be taking Mitchell McCarthy as a CatB rookie if he isn't picked up in the draft. Anyone know anything about him?

St Kilda Saints Regions
Melbourne City; Glen Eira; Stonington; Port Phillip; Dandenong; Bayside; Kingston; Frankston (VIC)
196cm former US basketball scholarship holder.

Monster leap.

All based on second hand information, so I'm happy to discuss any of these guys.

Gallucci probably a good choice if he's still available. Both him and Bolton are a strong possibility to be available.

I'm not sold on Bolton. Question marks against his defensive play and ability to win the ball. ( compared to Gallucci for example ).

Villis : Unclear he could go as early as 15 or go nearly to our second pick. He's been described as "Very" Outside. Will his 15 disposal average in the championships translate to "enough" of the ball at AFL level?

C.Cox: Probably will be available at our pick. He's mainly played back flank and is a low possession high impact player. Risky in my eyes. I'd grab him if he went to our second pick though.

Florent : I've heard things about his consistency that don't make me confident. Going missing in games , iffy kicking. I am probably wrong.

FWIW my draft preference if they happened to slide is: Simpkin, Berry, Rotham, Gallucci, Bolton. I'd pass on Venables and Florent

My thoughts are players who are a chance to slide out to our second pick ( but probably won't) could include:
Drew, Powell-Pepper, Bolton, Clarke, Fisher, Ryan, Graham, C Cox.

Florent's inconsistancy rpoabbaly have something to do with being played predomianntly as a ahlf forward for Sandy due to there stacked midfield. When they gave him a chance in the guts he dominated. Doesn't need a lot of the ball to make things happans and creates. His kicking isn't bad at all and probably the best out of the sandy players bar setterfield. Couple all this with the factt that his father passed away with about 6 weeks left in the season it could explain some of the percieved 'inocnsitency'. The reality is he probably wont be avilable anyways so no issue.

Has a heap of potential but will take multiple years to come on... Wouldn't have played more than 15 games since under 16's so it's more based on what he could be than anything

Yeah most have him gone by pick 19.

TAC Cup
Draft Watch: Dandenong’s Mitch McCarthy

After spending his top-age year in the United States playing basketball, Mitch McCarthy returned to the Dandenong Stingrays in 2016 as an exciting but raw draft prospect.

Having first spent time at the club in 2014, the 196cm Mt Eliza product had his over-age TAC Cup season interrupted by injury but showed enough of his athleticism to earn an invite to the recent NAB AFL Draft Combine.

McCarthy averaged eight disposals, three marks and 19 hitouts per game in six TAC Cup matches this year playing mostly as a key forward and ruckman, and also represented Vic Country in two games at the NAB AFL U18 Championships.

taccup.com.au talked to McCarthy at the Draft Combine, where he was unable to participate in physical testing as he completes his recovery from a navicular stress fracture in his foot.

How have you been selling yourself as a footballer to AFL clubs in interviews at the Combine?

“I usually talk about my athleticism – because I’m from a basketball background which helps a lot – and probably my skills for my size.”

What is the strangest question you’ve been asked by an AFL club?

“I was asked to count backwards from 773 in sevens. I struggled a bit with that. I think I was in pain for about a whole minute, but they pushed me through it and I was waiting for them to say: ‘Alright, you’re good’, but it just didn’t come!”

Which AFL players do you particularly like to watch and model your game on?

“I love watching Grant Birchall for Hawthorn. He’s a great kick and he’s mobile. (Port Adelaide’s) Paddy Ryder – I love watching him, a high-flyer. (West Coast’s) Nic Naitanui because of his jumping, and Jared Brennan who used to play for Brisbane and Gold Coast – he was fun to watch.”

How did you come to the decision to choose playing footy over basketball?

“It was probably around draft time last year. A few of my Stingrays teammates from when I was playing U17s were getting drafted and by then I actually had to decide whether I wanted to sign to go to a US university on a scholarship or go back to footy. I picked footy and I’m 100 per cent confident that was the right decision. I was over there for six months and my whole heart was dedicated to that (basketball), but I was starved of footy. It was a hard decision that took a lot of family meetings over the phone.”

How do you think your year turned out relative to your pre-season expectations?

“I’m not going to lie – it was tough to get back into the footy rhythm, trying to understand the game. The game’s changed since 2014, with the structures involved. It’s pretty tricky sometimes but the Stingrays have been awesome helping me through it. (Talent Manager) Mark Wheeler, who I work with as a trainee at the moment – I really need to say thank you to him the most. He’s probably accelerated my learning of footy through watching vision of games and talking through different players and structures.”

What type of player do you think you’ll end up being?

“I’d probably say I’ll start off in the back line, get to know the game a bit more and see it from that perspective, and then move up into the forward line and pinch-hit in the ruck.”

Talk about why you think your teammates at the Combine are so highly rated.

- Josh Battle: “He’s an elite kick – I think he’s the best kick in the draft.”
- Bailey Morrish: “He’s very exciting. I love watching him run out of the back line. He’s athletic and he’s got all the traits to be an AFL footballer.”
- Myles Poholke: “He’s a very good grab. I think with his marking ability, he helped us get up in some games this year.”

If you weren’t possibly going to become a full-time footballer, what would you be doing in life in the next few years?

“At the moment I’m doing a Certificate IV in Sports Development at the Stingrays as a traineeship, so maybe I’ll work through to become a PE teacher and I then want to work my way up the ranks as a coach.”

Really like the look of Gallucci as one who we might take at 23. There has been a fair bit of discussion about his kicking, but judging from the number of clips of him from both 2015 and 2016 on youtube, he looks fairly solid overall to me. He played Under 18 Champs as an underager last year, co-captained the winning Vic Metro team this year, named 2016 All-Australian, and is also quick. And the best bit? Have a look at 45 seconds into the video below- how's the sensational handball from Gresh and the equally impressive receive and finish from Gallucci! Would love to see that combo again at the Saints next year!

Yeah I'd like him if he slipped to us, not sure he does him or spp would have me happy

For me, the key differences between SPP and Gallucci are the speed of Gallucci (which I think we really need) vs the endurance of SPP, and the kicking. For two guys who aren't supposed to be the best kicks, Gallucci appears to be MUCH more polished. Brenton Sanderson compared Gallucci to Akermanis, which would be fine by me at pick 23!

Neither Brett Anderson nor Knightmare have Gallucci in their top 30, so I'm hoping that we can grab him with one of our two second rounders.

You'd pass on Florent, eh...

I just don't want us to recruit Bolton.
He'll betray us to the Lannisters and perform unspeakable acts of cruelty.

Plus, as we've seen, he goes to pieces against the dogs... :drunk:

I think Spp plays quicker then galluci if that makes sense, spp busts through packs at full tilt, Brett Anderson said that galluci could be at saints pick at 23 and would be 'good rebound defender ala Jason johannison' I think spp has a higher ceiling then galluci,
