Re: Draft Discussion

A mock draft where everyone knows Melb will take Watts as #1.And everyone knows why they will take Watts.Because they NEED a chf.If they were going for the best available Natanui would go #1.
Geez go way back to when we drafted Fiora. We drafted Fiora because we needed Mids.We ignored Pavlich.
In my opinion they also NEED a ruckman.

But Watts is a better prospect so he will go number 1.

Fair enough thats your opinion[yes they do need a Ruckman]however in my opinion just going on pure talent you cant go past Rich.
But anyway we are getting away from the debate on weather Clubs do or do not select on a needs basis in the 1st rnd.

Re: Draft Discussion

8: Trengove, McKernan, Hartlett, Swift
26: Schoenmakers, Johnston, Hanneberry, Broadbent, Suban, Heyne, Roughead
58: Sibosado, Sharples
70: Really Tall Bugger

This is likely to be the highest pick we have for a few years, unless we wrangle one out of GC. We desperately need quality talls and we won't get a better chance than this year to get them.

So I'm almost certain we'll draft a midfielder.

LOL you got that right :D

Re: Draft Discussion

Guys why have people gone off the topic ???.If people a saying were after hartlett i reckon he will gone before our pick either to lions or bombers.

I'm not to fussed about this. If Hartlett is gone we'll have one of Ziebell, Trengove, Hurly or Vickery which would all be good gets.
We could even take a gamble on Swift which has the potential for a huge upside.
We could use anyone of these players.

Re: Draft Discussion

What exactly am I taking or as you put it, can't take? No I don't suffer fools gladly, which you very much are.
See there you go again.Whats the matter Beaver have i got under your skin? All you can comeback with is name calling.Have a good look in the mirror and tell me who the real fool is here.Sunshine

Yeah fools tend to get under my skin. You didn't even realise what the initial argument was about, and you then invented a topic to suit your argument. What a bunch of crap. Just let me check for a moment....nope you are the fool sunshine. It is getting embarrassing for you.:o

Re: Draft Discussion

Tigers of old, I'd stop there...whether or not he's right, Beav tends to win most spats that are winnable.
Not having a go at you cos I dunno what you're arguing about...

Back on topic; In the off chance that Naitanui makes it to our pick, who would and who wouldn't want to pick him up?

Re: Draft Discussion

Yeah same, although it's a massive risk of JON proportions...

Re: Draft Discussion

I don't think we'll get a deluge of extra members based soley on drafting Natanui, not before he's even played at least, and there'll be big question marks raised as to why 7 clubs suddenly overlooked him after being regarded as a certain number 1 pick since before even last year's draft.

Definitely a big risk, could be a dud of Fiora proportions, but could also be a jackpot of Franklin proportions. I still tend to lean towards the former. Either way , I doubt there will be much middle ground.

Re: Draft Discussion

I think it is a moot point anyway, he won't last to our pick. Might as well keep discussion to Vickery vs Hartlett vs Swift vs Trengove vs RT's man McKernan.

Re: Draft Discussion

Yeah good point, I'd like to know more about Wood half-arsed. What are skills like? Can he play midfield? Is he a genuine A grade talent?

Re: Draft Discussion

He's got no weaknesses, and is probably the fittest bloke running in the TAC cup, so I'd say a definate midfielder, but he doesn't have any *lethal* weapons...a very good kick on both feet, a good strong mark, fairly quick...but not a world beater with any of these except fitness.
I think he'll turn into a Kane Johnson-of-5-years-ago type player, just outside the top echelon of players but still very good...

But that's just my take, he'll probably come out and be a superstar and dash my recruiter ambitions :p

Re: Draft Discussion

That's what I think. I'd much prefer a tall who may not make it, but could be a star (McKernan/Trengove) than a mid who should become a good-very good contributor that probably won't be a star...

Although Sidebottom is similar to Van Berlo, with better skills, and he's coming pretty good (although is overrated). Something in between Van Berlo and K Johnson would be my guess at what Sidebottom would turn out to be.

Re: Draft Discussion

All I want is A grade talent. If a both a key forward/ruckman and a midfielder is available and deemed A-grade, I'd let needs dictate the choice then. Otherwise add another A-grade midfielder or key defender and never have to worry about those positions for a while.

Re: Draft Discussion

I think the only sure "A" grade talent in the draft is Watts, Hartlett and Ziebell. IMO they're the only players certain to make it, and I think all will be stars. Although I also think McKernan will be a gun CHF, but he aint a sure thing as such.

Edit: Obviously no one is a sure thing to become a gun, but I think the above three are as sure as anything to become guns...
