4 - Gaff
26 - Mitchell
29 - Cripps
Spare - Newton

I would prefer Polec to Gaff as we need goal kickers not accumulators. Eagles have not paid enough attention to drafting players that can hit the scoreboard. From now on every mid we draft should be a noted goal kicker and/or explosive pace.

Also if Bennell was not picked by Gold Coast (forlorn hope)I would take him.

4 - Jared Polec
26 - Isaac Smith
28/29 - Jamie Cripps

I think the club needs to draft players that can take the game on, break the lines and have some hurt factor. Although many have Gaff at selection 4, I think he is another accumulator / link up type player much like the mids we already have in the team. Having said that I rate Gaff higher than most of the accumulator mids we already have. So I’d be happy to get him at 4.

Also wouldn’t mind drafting any of Cook/Mitchell/Menagola as another Tall Forward option with second/third picks.

Gaff - Darling - Gorringe.

If Gorringe is still available at 26 or 29 I will be very, very shocked.

Even more shocked if we passed on him for another HBFer.
At first glance you would expect his name called out earlier but go through last years draft and the ruckmen slid way down the list.

Lycett is likely to play AFL sooner because of his bigger body so there is every chance he will be taken first (of the rucks).

Last year Max Gawn (mock had him going to Melbourne at 18) was the first ruckman selected even though Matt Burgan had Vardy going to Port at pick 16.

Gawn was taken by Melbourne with pick 34 while Geelong took Vardy at 42.

If the trend follows in this draft then either Lycett or Gorringe or both should be available at 29.

We will take one of them IMO.

Where the Ruckmen were selected last year has no bearing on where this year's Ruckmen will go. To assume they'll slide because they did last year is to assume that these Ruckman are of equal talent.

I hope every other club overlooks Lycett, so WC can select him at 26. At this stage in Cox's career, WC don't need a less likely candidate who may do a Sullivan for 3 years, only to be de-listed just as Cox is retiring.

1) Last year has no bearing on this year other than the clubs that did not draft a young prospect had done so previously and had enough faith that their previous picks will mature into servicable ruckmen.

2) One year later Carlton have lost Jacobs, Kruezer has been injured and has been groomed as a CHF. They are clearly in need of another ruck prospect.

3) West Coast has delisted Sullivan and has no young talent.

4) Freo have Clarke and will give him another year to prove himself and Griffin is some chance to come West to the Dockers.

5) Every other club either has enoungh young potential rucks on their list or is in a position where they need another type of player as a priority.

I am very confident that we will secure one of Gorringe, Lycett or a top line forward prospect like Darling with our second or/and third picks.

It will unfold very soon ;)

Looking through a couple of the official mock drafts and comments made on what clubs needs are etc I agree, a Darling or Gorringe could very well slip through to 26.

GC have already signed up several young rucks plus got J Fraser for free. They are chasing kp forwards plus one of everything else. Sounds like Lynch and Day are heading there.

Carlton need a KP CHB or FF / CHF before they need another ruck.

Essendon need a project ruck but are desperate for a good inside mid.

Brisbane needs midfielders and lots of them.

Freo are fine and need either another mid of a kp back / forward.

Norths rucks are healthy.

Crows are looking tall but have drafted tall for a couple of years now.

Sydney are fine, need a FF or midfielder.

Hawks will need a ruck, no doubt there at all.

Pies are fine and don't have a pick before us anyway.:D

Dogs have already used their first two picks on father son selections.

Port possibly.

Demons need a KP forward.

No doubt something pretty decent will fall to 26.:thumbsu::D

Where's the correlation between this year's Ruckmen sliding because last year's supposedly slid, and, clubs need for Ruckmen this year?

Not all clubs are going to have Ruckmen of the potential of Gorringe and Lycett, let alone having back up Ruckmen of such potential.

Carlton's problems in this regard stemmed from them having too many Ruckmen worthy of playing. Carlton couldn't accommodate playing all 4 of them regularly. Someone was bound to miss out and become disgruntled due to a lack of opportunity.

Freo would do well to take Gorringe or Lycett, if available. Neither Clarke of Griffin have the potential of the 2 SA lads. Nor are Clarke or Griffin any certainty of actually having a long term future in the AFL.

As for WC, there's no one I want to slide more than either Gorringe or Lycett. Don't want another Sullivan, or 3 years of development wasted.

Every other club may have enough Ruckman on their list. It remains to be seen if those clubs' list management deem their number 1 Ruckman or back ups worthy enough to overlook two widely acknowledged 1st round talents in Gorringe and Lycett.

I hope they do slide, but I don't see it happening.

I doubt we will go with darling Swift, he is a forward and Woosha does not know what they are or what to do with them.

He will look for a midfielder/Half Forward who can become a good back pocket/tagger.

Bet on it...........

I'm hoping we target some forwards and really I don't have much of an idea who we will target - just having my 2 cents.
Woosha did manage to get Lecras, so I live in hope.

I'm sticking with all WA boys
1. Jack Darling - absolutely no chance he will be there at 26.
2. Angus Litherland - amazed that no one on this board has rated him in top 30.
3. Jordan Eade - A certain star of the future.

My tips

4) Gaff- book it in, we always go with best available regardless of needs.

26) Angus Litherland- With Wilkes and Spangher gone we will need coverage on that 3rd tall option if Schofield get injuried.

28) Anton Hamp- Another replacement player, Mckinley and Notte both gone he fits the bill as that developing Forward and has amazing agility and speed for a boy his size.

Spare- Alex Fasolo

4: polec- the back page of todays west made him look the goods.
26: Cripps -Seen him play some blinders for East Fremantle league, kick goals from a half back flank.
29:Chalwell-could be the bargain of the draft keeps getting better, 193 cm 14.6 beeb, 88cm running leap, can play anywhere.

Spare Menegola 15.5 beep, 192 cm leading goal kicker in colts

3 WA boys there.

Just saw some of his footage on the afl website, he reminded me a lot of Swift in body shape and movement..and minus the neck.

Is he better suited at FF or CHF?

Was Lecca rated at the time? It sort of gives hope to these Weedon type picks which come out of nowhere.

got this off wiki about lecras its a interesting snippit.

Draft and debut

He was recruited as the number 37 draft pick in the 2004 AFL Draft from West Perth. Mark made his debut for the West Coast Eagles in Round 10, 2005 against Port Adelaide. After his second AFL game he was relegated into the WAFL, where he continued to put on excellent performances as both a pinch-hitting forward or a nimble midfielder for West Perth.
He was recalled in 2006 for the Round 14 clash against Hawthorn, but only managed a total of 16 disposals in two games before being dropped and recalled for the Round 22 demolition of Richmond, where LeCras put in a surprise performance, booting 5 goals. LeCras placed fourth in the Sandover medal for the best player in the WAFL in 2006. The award was won by fellow West Coast Eagle player Matt Priddis. He fought his way back into the team in 2007, and had a stellar season, kicking 36 goals for the season.
