He will look for a midfielder/Half Forward who can become a good back pocket/tagger.

Not all clubs are going to have Ruckmen of the potential of Gorringe and Lycett, let alone having back up Ruckmen of such potential.

This club does.

4. Gaff - unless a last minute change it appears the Victorian accumilator is bound for the West. Questions remain about Gaff having an impact against mature men but so far he has been a prime mover in the U18's division. Should Gaff slide into the big time at AFL level then he will be exactly what the Eagles require, an outside mid with sublime disposal.
Polec is pressing Gaff for this pick with his aggressive attack on the footy combined with league experience and a prolific left boot coming to the attention of selectors.
Heppell has a touch of bluey McKenna about his game and also has the scouts pondering his selection.

26. Darling - Once touted as a top five draft pick Darling has been the big slider. Off field problems and a general concensess that this robust talent comes with baggage and his mature physique leaves little room for improvement coupled with a stagnent level of improvement in the past year have been the driving force behind his drift down the draft rankings. The big plus is Darling is ultra competitive and if he had grown past 191cms then he would have talent scouts salivating. Could easily be taken earlier in the draft but with the compromised draft clubs are likely to comtemplate needs over best available, a bonus for West Coast should he slide this far.
A KPP is most likely at pick 26 if Darling has been taken and West Coast will take best available with a forward being considered most likely.

29. Gorringe - arguably the best ruckman available in this draft on potential Gorringe is far from mature. The teams on face value that need a ruckman have actually drafted to cater for this need previously and the new rules of three interchange players with one substitute place doubt over a team going into each game with two recognised rucks.
Carlton having lost Jacobs are the team in need of a replacement with Kruezer unlikely to take the key rucking role after his recent knee reconstruction. Lycett is taller by two cms, ten kilo's heavier and more mature so he is a better fit for the Blues for immediate needs. Carlton will toss between the two but take Lycett to fit neatly into the window of opportunity.
By delisting Sullivan West Coast are vulnerable to injury should Cox or Naitanui become unavailable. Sullivan and Seaby had been touted as adequate back-up should a problem occur in the ruck but neither have been able to stake a solid claim, both have left the club in recent times.
Should Gorringe be taken before this selection then Lycett would be in calculations if available or the Eagles may opt for a mature age ruck from one of the state leagues as a rookie.

It should be noted that Ruckmen have been the big sliders in recent drafts if you compare Matt Burgan's phantom draft to the real draft. Gorringe is a great talent in the making and a ready made replacement (fingers crossed) for an aging Cox in the coming years.
